A football-fanatic dog’s hilarious reaction to her favorite team scoring a tense goal might be the cutest thing you’ll see in a long time.
Pretinha the black poodle is a huge Fluminense FC fan and her avid reactions to their goals are evidence of it.
The dog was adopted by a Fluminense obsessive family in Brazil and it didn’t take long for her to join in on the fun. It would be hard to not be, considering she’s named after a Brazilian player.
Pretinha regularly watches and celebrates the games at home, as shown in various videos posted to her owner’s TikTok account with 500,000 followers. Her tense reaction to Fluminense FC’s last-minute goal during the September 3 match against Fortaleza is so relatable to any soccer fan that it hurts.
Fluminense FC’s biggest fan is a dog
Diogo Barbosa scored the team’s winning goal in the 92nd minute, saving the day at the last minute. Pretinha was more relieved than her owners in a moment shared to their TikTok profile on September 5.
Looking exactly like a human, the poodle perked up at the few almost-goals that occurred, before siking back down when they didn’t go to plan.
When they finally scored, however, Pretinha was elated, jumping up and chasing its tail in a circle endlessly. Her joy could be felt through the screen.
The science behind the dog’s celebration
Dogs are smart and love their owners, that’s facts. According to experts, dogs are able to learn the emotions that TV shows and films give their owners and channel them themselves.
Pretiha likely connected the act of a ball entering the goal on screen and her owners celebrating with joy. In an interview with QZ, TV sensation dog behaviorist Cesar Millan reported that if a pet sees an owner jump with joy while watching a sports game or laugh at a TV show, they’ll also channel the same energy and feel excited when they come on screen.
“Each household has its own culture and the dog becomes part of that,” Millan told the outlet.
In an interview with Vida de Bicho, Pretinha’s owner said the poodle recognes the change in tone of the narrator’s voice, when it seems that there’s about to be a goal, and begins to watch closely to see it happen.
Dogs are soccer lovers
A poll of 2,000 American dog owners by PetSmart found that four in five believe that their dogs are actually bigger sports fans than them.
79% said they watch sports with their pets while 83% said their dogs even have a favorite sport to watch. American football was a clear winner with 40% while soccer came second at 19%.
