» » » 'Sad and worrying': £20m ace urged to leave Arsenal in January transfer window

Jakub Kiwior needs to leave Premier League leaders Arsenal on loan in the January transfer window with a return to Serie A the best option available to the AC Milan target.

That is the view of Piotr Czachowski, the former Poland international concerned about the situation Jakub Kiwior finds himself in ahead of March’s European Championship play-offs.

Kiwior is one of the first names on the team sheet at international level but you certainly cannot say the same when it comes to Arsenal. The £20 million signing from Spezia has started only two Premier League games so far this term, with Czachowski worried that a lack of game time under Mikel Arteta will impact Poland’s hopes of securing their place at Euro 2024.

Jakub Kiwior struggling at Arsenal

“He is considered the leader of our defence for the national team. No wonder, because he has great potential,” the one-time Dundee United ace tells TVP Sport.

“His club situation is not the best. At Spezia, he was an outstanding player. And, for him to be like that again, he has to return to the pitch for good. A loan is necessary because the competition at Arsenal is very difficult. The minutes played do not indicate that he will make constant progress.”

Kiwior has been linked with a number of clubs based in Italy’s top flight, including AC Milan and Jose Mourinho’s Roma. Czachowski believes that a return to Serie A, even if only on a temporary basis, would do wonders for a man who caught the eye at the Qatar World Cup on the back of his fine performances for Spezia.

A return to Italy?

“There is talk of Milan, Roma and Fiorentina. The Pole knows the specifics of the game in Italy and could basically jump into the squad straight away. I am convinced that Italy is a better solution (than joining another Premier League team),” Czachowski adds.

“If he has so few minutes played at this stage of the season, he should necessarily go on loan. The Arsenal defender seems subdued. His head is lowered, the eyes move to the side. This is sad and worrying ahead of the March play-offs.

“To be confident, he simply needs to play more.”

Poland will face Estonia in the play-off semi-final. Win that, and they’ll go head to head with Wales or Finland for a place at the Euros.

Arsenal, meanwhile, overtook Manchester City at the top of the Premier League on Saturday, Kai Havertz’ 89th minute winner sealing a 1-0 triumph away at Brentford.
