That’s why there was a lot of pressure and spotlight on the man who was going to replace him.
In the end, Guglielmo Vicario still had big shoes to fill because of how well Hugo Lloris had served Spurs over the years, and it’s fair to say, he has more than met expectations.

A £17.2 million capture from Empoli, Clinton Morrison now thinks Guglielmo Vicario has proven to be a ‘bargain’ buy for Ange Postecoglou.
That was proven at the City Ground, especially during the final ten minutes of the match when he produced a stunning back-peddling save following an effort on goal from a corner.

“He is outstanding,” said Morrison. “This save was outstanding (84th minute). It was point-blank. Credit to him, he uses his feet and manages to get it away.
“But Vicario has been brilliant since he joined Tottenham. With Hugo Lloris, they decided he wasn’t going to be the number one and Vicario was going to be the number one.
“I think he has been outstanding. When they want to play out from the back, he is comfortable in possession and he makes big saves as well.
“I can guarantee you a lot of people didn’t know about him before he came to the Premier League. They know about him now. It’s a bargain at £17 million.”

If the Italy star were to ever get injured, then Spurs are in big trouble because the drop to the next man is pretty steep.
Fraser Forster is the next one in line and then probably Lloris, who remarkably enough, is still at the club.
It’s a credit to Vicario that, after only a few months, and in a very pressured role, he has become so important to the team.
And given the open nature in which Postecoglou’s side play in, Spurs would and should have conceded more if it wasn’t for Vicario’s heroic efforts in between the sticks.
