Alongside the various Wallace and Gromit films, Chicken Run is one of the most beloved movies created by the wonderfully unique Aardman Animations. Now, more than two decades after the first installment, a sequel is coming to Netflix in the form of Dawn of the Nugget.
What is Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget about?
Released by Netflix on Friday, December 15, 2023, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget continues the story of Ginger, Rocky and their flock of friends.
Everything seems to be going perfectly for the feathered couple until the birth of their daughter, Molly, who proves to be an adventurous chick.
When Molly finds herself in trouble at the hands of the returning Mrs Tweedy, Ginger and the other hens must band together and put their freedom at risk once again.
Instead of breaking out of the chicken farm as they did in the original – this time, they’re breaking in.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’s star-studded cast
Fans of the original Chicken Run will be delighted to know that several members of the original cast return to play their characters from the first film.
However, there are a number of new arrivals in Dawn of the Nugget, whether a choice by the studio or necessitated by the original actor’s death.
The biggest talking point prior to the sequel’s release, however, has been the recasting of Ginger, with Julia Sawalha being replaced by Thandiwe Newton.
The original voice actress did not return as she reportedly sounded “too old” to play the role, something which has attracted allegations of ageism.
