Darwin Nunez is a bit of an enigma. You just don’t know what you are going to get from the Liverpool forward.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool face one of their biggest tests of the season on Saturday at Anfield when Premier League leaders, Arsenal come to town.

After demolishing West Ham United 5-1 to reach the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday, the Reds prepared for that weekend showdown in some style.

Darwin Nunez started against the Hammers, as well as against Manchester United over the weekend, but now Jamie Carragher thinks he will be axed for Arsenal’s visit, as he told Sky Sports Football (20/12/23 at 9:45 pm).

Even though the former centre-back thinks Darwin Nunez performed ‘really well’ last night, he feels that Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah will start ahead of him.

Cody Gakpo started the match yesterday, scored, but was subbed after 78 minutes, whilst Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz came off the bench.

Jamie Carragher feels that is another sign that Darwin Nunez won’t start against Arsenal.

Darwin Nunez to be dropped for Arsenal

“Just interesting thinking about Liverpool’s front three in the game against Arsenal,” said Carragher.

“Nunez is going to stay on here for 90 minutes. Gakpo was the one taken off. Obviously, Diaz and Salah came off the bench. You would expect them to play because for that reason.

“Might be that man to miss out. I actually think he has done really well tonight, Nunez – a little bit of frustration comes from Liverpool supporters with him. That (going offside) happens a little too often.”

Arsenal and Liverpool – Premier League title race

This is yet another huge game in the race for the Premier League title. Another chance to put out a statement and sit top of the pile.

Manchester City are currently sat in fourth, lagging behind and they are on Club World Cup duty. They are behind as it is, so it’s another chance to pull away.

However, by the time Liverpool and Arsenal kick-off. They might not be top because Aston Villa, who play Sheffield United on Friday night, will go top of the league with three points and remain there if there is a draw at Anfield.

All in all, with Christmas coming up, it’s getting pretty congested at the top.
