Usually, Liverpool and Manchester United matches are full of blood and thunder, especially at a place like Anfield.
When those big games come about in Liverpool’s backyard, you just know that the crowd are going to be up for it and the game is going to produce a lot of action.
But not Liverpool’s goalless draw against out-of-sorts Manchester United on Sunday. That’s one everyone will want to forget, as soon as possible!
For large parts of the match, it was a drab affair, with both teams lacking quality, especially Jurgen Klopp’s men. It did burst into life towards the end, but nothing to shout about.
That performance from the home team seemed to have filtered into their own fans because, Gary Neville noticed how quiet the Liverpool faithful were, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (17/12/23 at 5:15 pm).
The former right-back added that he has ’never’ seen Anfield this quiet for the visit of Manchester United – and you couldn’t argue against him!
Liverpool fans against Manchester United
“You are right, Carragher,” said Neville. “This is the worst atmosphere I have seen in a Liverpool-Manchester United game.
“It has never been so quiet and that’s probably from five minutes in.”
Arsenal and Aston Villa win…but Man City and Liverpool drop points
What a Premier League title race this is turning out to be! After Man City blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Crystal Palace on Saturday, it opened the door for their challengers to react the following day.
Well, after a frustrating 45 minutes against Brighton, Mikel Arteta’s side put their foot on the pedal and beat Roberto De Zerbi’s men 2-0, with Arsenal now sitting top of the Premier League table.
And then Unai Emery’s high-flying Aston Villa, despite being 1-0 down, secured a late 2-1 win over Brentford.
