A sequel to the hugely profitable The Super Mario Bros Movie hasn’t been officially announced. On the other hand, due to its box office performance and popularity with audiences, it’s highly likely.
Chris previously teased a follow-up movie during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“We’re in the midst of this writers’ strike,” he began, “and so everything has been paused and [put] on hold for the right reasons. I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed, and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it’ll be time to start talking about what’s next for that.”
It’s clear that fans want it, many of whom have voiced their hopes online.
“I would love to see a sequel soon,” one fan tweeted, with another writing “The Super Mario Bros Movie is such a huge hit that a sequel (probably multiple) is a no-brainer.”
