Here, HITC Football have taken the time to explain why Arsenal and Liverpool among other Premier League teams are not in action this weekend.
Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool are set to resume their title race duties at the summit of the English top-flight on January 20 and 21 respectively.
So why are they not playing this weekend on either January 13 or 14? Well, let us explain to you the Premier League’s mid-season player break below and provide you with everything there is to know about it.
What is the Premier League winter break?
The Premier League will mark the return of their own winter break this January, as they seek to give their teams a little bit of a breather after a very busy festive schedule.
This break was first agreed between the Premier League, EFL and the Football Association back in 2018 and has player safety and welfare at the heart of its purpose.
The previous break of this kind was in 2021/22 after the COVID-19 pandemic and there was no need for one last year due to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This time around, the break will split gameweek 21 across two weekends. Some teams will play between January 12-14 while the rest will play between January 20-22 – it’s as simple as that.
When do Arsenal and Liverpool next play?
Due to the Premier League mid-season player break, Arsenal and Liverpool will not play this weekend.
Instead, Mikel Arteta’s side will play next Saturday (January 20) against Crystal Palace. While Jurgen Klopp will take charge of Liverpool’s clash with Bournemouth the following day (January 21).
