Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp will be counting their lucky stars that certain transfer deals didn’t come off in the summer, including not buying Chelsea’s struggling star, Moises Caicedo.

There were big changes made to Liverpool’s midfield in the summer and there was talk that Moises Caicedo was wanted at Anfield before he made the switch to Chelsea.

In the end, the 22-year-old secured a British record transfer of £115 million to Stamford Bridge, but Craig Burley now thinks he made the ‘wrong move’, as he told ESPN.

The former Scotland international says the £150k-a-week player should have gone to Liverpool instead, or even Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo all arrived, with the latter two especially making a very good impact.

All of those transfer fees combined don’t even make what those on Merseyside would have had to pay for Moises Caicedo, so it was a lucky escape from them.

Moises Caicedo Liverpool transfer

“Moises Caicedo at Brighton looked like a £100 million player,” said Burley. “He is a player. A right player at Brighton he was.

“Arsenal wanted him. Liverpool wanted him. Chelsea got him. He should have gone to Liverpool or Arsenal, not Chelsea. It’s a different story.

“He has made the wrong move, at this moment in time. No sign of that changing.”

Chelsea struggles continue

The issue with Chelsea is that there are too many players who are struggling and need to prove their worth.

For instance, Liverpool have Darwin Nunez. He is raw and inconsistent, but you can see the talent and qualities that he has.

He can learn, make mistakes and recover in an environment like Anfield because of the proven performers, such as Mohamed Salah, who he has around him.

The same can’t be said for Chelsea, who have Mykhailo Mudryk, Caicedo, Malo Gusto, Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke, to name a few, who all have raw potential, but are inconsistent.

But because Chelsea’s environment is full of them, they are rightfully losing to Championship sides and sitting tenth in the Premier League table.
