Tim Sherwood has fired shots at Manchester United and how Timo Werner won’t regret joining Tottenham Hotspur instead.

On Sunday, the on-loan RB Leipzig star made his Tottenham debut as Ange Postecoglou’s side recorded a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Timo Werner assisted Rodrigo Bentancur’s equaliser in the second half, as Tim Sherwood spoke about the striker having the ‘opportunity to go to Manchester United’.

But the former Spurs boss mocked Erik ten Hag’s team because he added that, if he did make that move, then he would be ‘playing left-back or right-back’, as he told Premier League Productions (14/01/24 at 7:05 pm).

The style of play between what Ange Postecoglou’s team dish out, in comparison to the Dutchman in Manchester, is pretty contrasting.

It could be argued that Tottenham are playing some of the best football in the Premier League and that attacking style certainly suits Timo Werner’s game.

And that’s why Tim Sherwood thinks Timo Werner is better off in Tottenham colours.

If Timo Werner joined Manchester United

“He had the opportunity to go to Manchester United,” said Sherwood. “I wonder if he regrets that decision. Absolutely not!

“He would have been out there (during Man United v Tottenham) playing at left-back or right-back for Man United. There is absolutely no game plan from their strikers.”

Will Timo Werner prove people wrong?

Yes, the Germany international was mocked during his time at Chelsea, but the 27-year-old will simply point towards his Champions League medal.

But the fact of the matter is that there is this dark cloud over his head and he needs to get rid of it.

That can only happen by strong performances in Spurs colours, increasing those attacking numbers and perhaps earning a permanent contact at Hotspur Way.

Sources have told HITC Football that the London club can buy Werner for a tad over £15 million in the summer, if they wish, so that’s something for him to play towards.
