Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren has been advised to snub interest from Manchester United and Chelsea and sign for another Premier League side.
Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeeren has been linked with a move to the Premier League or La Liga with Spanish side Barcelona being linked with a move for the teenage star.
Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the Royal Antwerp midfielder as they seek to bolster their midfield department and one team who, based on recent history, could enter the race for Vermeeren is Chelsea.
Both Premier League giants have struggled massively with Mauricio Pochettino’s side languishing in mid-table and Erik ten Hag’s United sitting in eighth place in the division.
Vermeeren urged to snub PL giants
The midfielder has been a regular fixture in the Jupiler Pro League this season with 31 appearances and he has contributed two goals and six assists.
Former Burnley midfielder Steven Defour, Wesley Sonck and Marc Degryse were having a debate on Het Laatste Nieuws and one of the topics they discussed was the 18-year-old’s next step.
“What Vermeeren is especially not allowed to do is go to a club like Chelsea or Manchester United, where they buy thirty or forty players and then loan you out. What they do is gamble. You don’t give confidence to a player like that,” Degryse said.
“Chelsea is too volatile. Those types of clubs simply put a player worth €30m in the stands,” Defour explained.
When the former Burnley ace was asked if Vermeeren had the choice between Brighton and United what he would advise the Belgian to do, Defour said: “Brighton, Brighton!”

Despitr Vermeeren being linked with United and Barcelona, HITC Football understands that Arsenal actually lead the race for the Belgian teenager.
Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is another target for the Gunners but the North London club, alongside Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be in the hunt for Vermeeren.
As mentioned, it is not just the two Premier League giants who are interested in the Belgian. Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona have also been credited with an interest, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Vermeeren’s contract, however, lasts until 2026 and he’s recently stated, in an interview with Nieuwsblad that he wants to finish the season at Royal Antwerp before deciding his next move.
The Belgian would be wise to consider his options before making his move to either side in the summer as both clubs look set to be in a period of transition with the Red Devils potentially in the market for a new manager if Ten Hag continues to struggle.
