Paul Merson has given his verdict on the performance of Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson against Brighton and Hove Albion at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit has noted that Tottenham fans were not happy with Johnson.
So, what has Paul Merson said about Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson? Let’s take a look.
Paul Merson comments on Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson
Well, Tottenham Hotspur beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Pascal Gross put Brighton in the lead from the penalty spot in the 17th minute. Midfielder Pape Matar Sarr scored the equaliser for Tottenham in the 61st minute, and forward Brennan Johnson found the winner in the sixth minute of injury time.
It was South Korea international forward Son Heung-min who provided the ball across the goal for Johnson to score.
The £47.5 million (Sky Sports) Wales international did not start the match. The 22-year-old came on as a substitute for Timo Werner on 62 minutes.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson was following the match for Sky Sports, and while he was impressed with the goal that Johnson scored, he noted that Spurs fans were not happy with his performance before the “impact player” found the back of the net.
Merson said about Johnson on Sky Sports News (5:29 pm, February 10, 2024): “Johnson didn’t celebrate. I think that’s probably, I don’t know, because he was getting a bit of stick off the fans.
“He did not have the greatest time when he came on. But, he got there, he didn’t hide and he put it in the roof of the net.”
My View: Brennan Johnson will play his role for Tottenham
In my opinion, Brennan Johnson will play his role for Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks and months.
Spurs are aiming to win the Premier League title this season, and I think that the former Nottingham Forest will be important.
Yes, Johnson may not start all the time, but as a substitute, he will make an impact for the North London club.
The forward has made 13 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham so far this season. He has scored three goals and provided four assists in those games.
