Graham Potter would be wise to reject AC Milan’s interest in him if an offer does arrive from the Italian giants.

HITC have reported that Graham Potter is one of the targets for AC Milan as they begin to make enquiries over managerial candidates as they are unsure about the future of current head coach Stefano Pioli.

Potter has been out of work since being sacked as manager of Chelsea as the abundance of January signings was not enough for the Englishman and he was eventually replaced by Frank Lampard.

Previously, Potter was manager of Brighton & Hove Albion and was performing very well with the South Coast side but his reputation has taken a bit of a hit.

Why Potter would be wise to reject AC Milan

Antonio Conte is understood to be the favourite among the decision-makers at the Italian side but if they did decide to pivot to Potter and offer him the job, the Englishman would have to think about his options.

Following his disastrous spell at Chelsea, where the pressure and scrutiny was almost relentless, taking another job in a different country, where he might not speak the language, would also be a risk.

For Potter, his next job will surely have to be one where the pressure and scrutiny is not as high as it has been at Chelsea so taking the job of arguably the biggest side in Italy would be a massive risk.

He was previously linked with Crystal Palace as the pressure mounts on Roy Hodgson and perhaps a job like that back in the Premier League would be a wise decision for the 48-year-old.

Potter’s future

The Englishman has been out of work since his Chelsea dismissal and had turned down the chance to return to English football with Championship side Leicester City.

A move back to his homeland would be a smart move for the Englishman as it would take the pressure off him. The issue might be that Potter could well be in the running for the Manchester United job.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has previously been keen on Potter for a role for OGC Nice so it seems logical that the 71-year-old may be interested in Potter if Erik ten Hag is dismissed at the end of this season.

For Potter, not joining one of Europe’s elite may well be best for the 48-year-old as he weighs up his next move in his career.
