Simon Jordan is a big fan of Thomas Frank but feels the Brentford boss is not ‘the right fit’ to replace Jurgen Klopp at Premier League giants Liverpool.

If there is a manager who knows what it means to become a victim of your own success, it’s arguably Thomas Frank. The very fact that there has been some hand-wringing about Brentford’s recent form – albeit mainly amongst those on the outside looking in – is a by-product of their remarkable over-performance during The Bees’ first two top-flight campaigns.

Frank took Brentford into the Premier League for the first time ever in 2021 and has kept them there ever since, finishing as high up as ninth last term while masterminding famous wins over the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.

And with the aforementioned Merseysiders in the market for a new manager for the first time in a decade – Jurgen Klopp confirming that this season will be his last – some have suggested that Frank could be the man to step into the German’s sizeable shoes.

Liverpool like Brentford manager Thomas Frank

The Athletic report that Frank – who’s work at Brentford has been described as ‘brilliant’ and ‘incredible’ by Klopp himself – has admirers at Anfield.

Simon Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman, has his reservations, however, suggesting that it is maybe a little too soon for Frank to inherit one of world football’s most high-pressure roles.

“I think they’ve got a very good manager,” Jordan tells talkSPORT (6 February, 10am). “I’ve heard people indexing him to the Liverpool job! I don’t think that’s the right fit but, notwithstanding, I think he’s a good manager.”

Comparisons will inevitably be drawn between Frank and Graham Potter, who did a remarkable job at Brighton but struggled badly at Chelsea. Liverpool, however, are a far more solid, coherent, well-run outfit, Klopp laying the foundations for his successor by signing a host of rising stars from Alexis Mac Allister and Ibrahim Konate to Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Jurgen Klopp is leaving Anfield

Jordan is, meanwhile, a lot more positive about the prospect of another Premier League-based boss taking over from Klopp at the current table-toppers.

“If I were involved, yeah, I’d think he would be under consideration,” Jordan says of Tottenham chief Ange Postecoglou. “He’d provide a lot of thing Klopp has been successful in. Galvanising the fanbase, the style of play, he’s a winner, he’s won, and he’s got the personality

“So I think there are a lot of similarities (between Postecoglou and Klopp). Spurs will have no truck for it, and neither should they. But there is definitely room (in the discussions) for Ange Postecoglou.

“He is a charisma slightly lower level than Klopp. He doesn’t have the 64 million dollar smile. But he has the personality that people find relatable.”
