» » » ‘Absolutely’: Manchester United told to sack Erik ten Hag and replace him with ‘world-class’ 44-year-old manager

Stan Collymore has named the manager that Manchester United should hire to replace Erik ten Hag with at the end of the season.

The former Liverpool striker does not think that Erik ten Hag will be in charge of Manchester United for much longer.

United are unlikely to end up in the top four of the Premier League this season and failed to make an impact in the UEFA Champions League.

Roberto De Zerbi tipped to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

According to Stan Collymore, the perfect manager for United is the Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi, who, as HITC revealed last week, is on the radar of Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Collymore told CaughtOffSide: “Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi to Manchester United? — Absolutely!

“I know the Seagulls’ recent results haven’t been anywhere near good enough but take nothing away from De Zerbi. He is a world-class coach but his personality and man-management skills also make him an ideal candidate.

“He would not mess around there. He’d come in, make it known from day one who is in charge and he’d ensure every player there follows his every word, and if they don’t, he’d be ruthless enough to cut them loose, regardless of who they are.

“So for me, it’s quite simple — I expect United to keep Ten Hag until the end of the season, although I suspect things will probably get worse for them in the meantime, especially with a tough Premier League game against Everton coming up before a gruelling FA Cup quarter-final tie against Liverpool.

“But once the season ends, I think it’ll be time for the Dutchman to move onto a new challenge with De Zerbi being the best candidate out there to take over.”

My View: Let us not get carried away with Roberto De Zerbi

In my opinion, Manchester United should not rush into making a decision on Roberto De Zerbi. I think that we have to see how he does in the long term instead of judging him on a few months at Brighton and Hove Albion.

De Zerbi did extremely well at Brighton last season. The 44-year-old Italian tactician did not have a pre-season with the Seagulls, so the impact that he made was astonishing. Even Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was impressed.

Brighton are not doing so well in the Premier League at the moment. The Seagulls are not in the running for the top four and may not end up in the European places.

Moreover, De Zerbi has not managed a really big club. Yes, he did well at Sassuolo, but if he were that good, then why didn’t a European heavyweight come for him?

Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and arguably the biggest in England.

United need to hire a manager who has extensive experience of managing at the elite level, and by that I mean the UEFA Champions League.

The Red Devils need a manager who can make an immediate impact on the team and make them competitive. They cannot stay in the ‘project phase’ forever.
