Pat Nevin has named two Tottenham Hotspur players who he thinks are good enough to star for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin made the comments when asked to name some of the underrated players in the Premier League at the moment.
The BBC Sport pundit has named Tottenham Hotspur and England international attacking midfielder James Maddison among them.
Nevin has also said that he rates Tottenham and Netherlands international central defender Micky van de Ven very highly.
As you can see below, the former Scotland international winger thinks that Maddison and Van de Ven would look at home playing for Manchester City. He has named some other players as well, including Billy Gilmour.

Nevin wrote in his BBC Football Extra newsletter (7:02 pm March 4, 2024) when asked by Mark, a Football Extra reader, to name the underappreciated players in the Premier League at the moment: “Currently players have so much exposure that it is hard to see anyone that under rated. Spotting hugely overrated current players isn’t that difficult!
“My judgement is usually, are they good enough that if they played for the likes of Man City would they look at home?
“In that category I would put Kaoru Mitoma and Billy Gilmour at Brighton, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven at Spurs. Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise at Palace are two more and there are a few others.
“Those are some contenders, but are they really underrated? Maybe it’s just that I rate these players extremely highly.”
My View: Maddison and Van de Ven would succeed anywhere
In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur duo James Maddison and Micky van de Ven are two of the best players at the North London club and in the Premier League.
I believe that Maddison and Van de Ven would succeed at any club in England – yes, they are that good.
Maddison is one of the best and most creative English midfielders around. He is 27 now and is at the top of his game. Gary Lineker rates him highly.
The former Leicester City playmaker has made 179 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored 46 goals and given 39 assists in those games.
Van de Ven joined Tottenham in the summer of 2023 and has been a hit at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
When fit and available, the 22-year-old is one of the first names on the Spurs teamsheet.
The Netherlands international is very quick and plays with a maturity that not many players of his age have.
