Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have started to do well, and there is now a chance that their season could be successful.
Manchester United beat Premier League rivals Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last weekend. The Red Devils will face Coventry City in the semi-finals. I am backing Erik ten Hag’s side to win the tie.
United are sixth in the Premier League table this season. They have picked up 47 points from 28 matches and are nine points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and six points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fifth. Villa have played 29 games.
There is a chance that the team that ends up fifth in the Premier League table this season will qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and Ten Hag’s side have to aim for that spot.
One of the big reasons why United have started to do well now is the form and performance of Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo is just 18 now, but he has already established himself as a key figure in the United team. He starts when he is fit and available, and he delivers too.
The teenage midfielder has been so good that England head coach Gareth Southgate has included him in his squad for this month’s international matches.
Harry Maguire is also part of the squad, just as we all expected, and the Manchester United and England international midfielder has raved about Mainoo.
Harry Maguire outlines what makes Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo special
Maguire told The Times about Mainoo: “I’ve been a massive fan of him ever since he first started training with us. I remember speaking to Tom Heaton [United’s reserve goalkeeper] about him and saying, ‘I feel like this boy has got everything.’
“He can handle the ball brilliantly. He’s really strong, powerful. The No 6 role is a huge responsibility and I’m sure the positional part of his game will improve drastically the more he plays. You’ve seen on Sunday the ability and talent he has, and he fully deserves his call-up [to the England senior side].
“It’s actually incredible he’s 18, he’s so mature. He’s a bit like Jude [Bellingham] was when he was a young boy. He’s got a mature head on his shoulders. He just wants to work hard and do well. I congratulated him, said he deserved it, keep it up, and make sure he enjoys himself.
“I told him if he needs anything just to ask me. A role and responsibility for the senior players at Manchester United is to bring through academy players. The club is always built on giving opportunities to young boys, we have numerous training with us a lot, and we try and make them feel welcome. We’ve done that to Kobbie.”
My View: Kobbie Mainoo is a rising Manchester United star
In my opinion, Kobbie Mainoo is one of the best young players around and is a rising star for Manchester United.
Mainoo is enjoying a breakthrough season at United and is playing with a degree of calmness and maturity that is refreshing to see.
The midfielder has made 23 appearances for the Red Devils this season. The teenager has scored two goals and given two assists in those games.
I think that Mainoo is going to improve and develop further in the coming years.
