Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are having a wonderful season.
In what is Jurgen Klopp’s final season as the Liverpool manager, the Reds have already won the Carabao Cup and are aiming to clinch the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.
Liverpool are level on points with leaders Arsenal in the Premier League table and will lock horns with Italian club Atalanta in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
The club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), though, are already planning for life after Jurgen Klopp.
FSG have Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso on their radar, and they are also keeping tabs on a number of players to sign in the summer transfer window.
One of the players that Liverpool are keen on is Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. HITC reported in February 2024 that the Reds are among a number of clubs who admire the Germany international, who can also operate as a right-back.
Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the £288,000-a-week (SalarySport) star.
Kimmich has now spoken about his future. The Bayern star has not said if he will leave or not at the end of the season, but the midfielder has suggested that his decision could depend on who the new manager of the Bavarian giants will be.
Thomas Tuchel is in charge of Bayern at the moment, but the former Chelsea manager will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season. He has been tipped to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
Joshua Kimmich comments on his Bayern Munich future amid Liverpool interest
Kimmich told Welt about his future: “For me, the situation is very clear. I still have over a year left on my contract, so I’m relaxed about it.
“As of now, it is still unclear who will our new coach will be from the summer. It is of course very interesting and important to know who it will be.
“My first priority now is to finish the season as positive as possible, in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League. Then comes the Euros. These are the things that matter.”
My View: Joshua Kimmich would be a blockbuster signing for Liverpool
In my opinion, Joshua Kimmich would be a superb signing for Liverpool. I think that the Germany international would make the Reds a much better team in the middle of the park.
Kimmich is 29 now and is at the top of his game. He has grown and developed at Bayern to become a world-class player.
The Germany international is a serial winner. Kimmich has won the Bundesliga title eight times and the UEFA Champions League once with Bayern.
Kimmich is also a regular in the Germany team and has made 82 appearances for his country.
