Raheem Sterling has faced many difficult moments in his career and he would have seriously felt the heat during Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Leicester City on Sunday.

Yes, Mauricio Pochettino watched his team secure a 4-2 win over the Championship high-flyers and book their semi-final ticket to Wembley.

But the Chelsea boo-boys were out in force at Stamford Bridge, with Raheem Sterling targeted, as well as the manager.

One of the reasons why Raheem Sterling was getting stick was his decision to take a first-half penalty off Cole Palmer and then proceed to miss it – the 21-year-old defended his teammate.

Richard Keys made it clear that if the 29-year-old has ‘pulled rank’ over his younger teammate, then ‘he doesn’t play for me again’, as he told beIN SPORTS (17/03/24 at 6:25 pm).

The £50 million signing did help himself by assisting Cole Palmer for Chelsea’s second goal, but then the Foxes pulled two goals back.

That’s when Raheem Sterling decided, on the edge of the box, to take a free-kick which ballooned well over the bar and into the top tier.

Once again, the reaction from the Chelsea faithful wasn’t pleasant, with Mauricio Pochettino then subbing off Mykhailo Mudryk instead of the Englishman, which produced another negative reaction.

Chelsea fans boo Raheem Sterling

“Raheem Sterling, who has missed more than his fair share down the years decided he was taking it,” said Keys.

Dwight Yorke then asked: “Going back to the pen there. Would you pull rank or the decision isn’t made already before you go out?”

Keys responded: “The decision should be made, shouldn’t it?! Which is why, if he has pulled rank, then he doesn’t play for me again.”

Raheem Sterling’s Chelsea future

You just feel the writing is on the wall here for the player and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he leaves in the summer.

Sources have told HITC Football that Sterling doesn’t have a future at Chelsea, with Saudi clubs knocking on the door.

It probably would be a surprise if he does head to the Middle East, but you can only see Pochettino saving him here.

The under-fire coach continues to pick and start the player and you feel that won’t stop in these coming months, if Chelsea rise and win the FA Cup, then it helps Sterling, but if it goes the other way, then they both will probably be gone by the summer.
