Ask any Tottenham Hotspur player from the 2010’s and they will probably all agree on who the best player they have ever played with is – and it isn’t Harry Kane.

Kane may have become Tottenham’s goalscoring hero but he gets overshadowed in this conversation.

It’s not Hugo Lloris, it’s not Christian Eriksen. It’s not Son Heung-min, nor is it the Belgian wall of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

The man Tottenham players from that era all adore is midfielder Mousa Dembele – another Belgian star.

The praise for Dembele often confuses many as his record of 10 goals and 12 assists in 249 games for Tottenham never really looks all that impressive.

Yet that doesn’t tell the full story of Dembele’s brilliance; the ability to either dance past a player or simply bulldoze past them was thrilling to watch and made him a sensational box-to-box player.

Dembele was so strong, possessed incredible balance as well as a great left foot and Tottenham fans will remember his marauding midfield run with real joy.

Dembele is proof that the numbers aren’t everything and he has now received even more praise.

Former Tottenham right back Kyle Walker has spoken to FIVE and named Dembele as one of the best players he has played with in his career.

The Manchester City star put Dembele alongside David Silva, heaping praise on Dembele after spending years together at Tottenham.

Walker suggested that Dembele was a ‘scandal’ of a player, believing that he ‘shouldn’t have been allowed’ to play because he was just so good.

Walker does accept that Dembele was missing goals and assists from his game but believes that he possessed everything else to be a top Premier League superstar.

“He is a scandal, he is a scandal – a scandal!” said Walker. “The only thing Dembele didn’t have was assists and goals. Everything apart from assists and goals, he was stupid at, it shouldn’t have been allowed.”

“One million percent,” he added when asked if Dembele could play for the current Manchester City side.

The pure numbers will leave players like Kane and Son as Tottenham legends and deservedly so.

To put up the kind of numbers they have, for as long as they have, is just ridiculous.

Yet it’s the cult heroes like Dembele who will have a special place in the hearts of supporters and no Tottenham fan who witnessed Dembele’s brilliance will forget him in a hurry.

Not bad for a £15million signing from Fulham.
