There is a lot of pressure on Erik ten Hag’s shoulders heading into Manchester United’s FA Cup clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
Ever since there have been changes in the Old Trafford boardroom, one of the questions being asked is. Will Erik ten Hag still be the Manchester United manager next season?
Names left, right and centre have been thrown about, including Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi.
But Ally McCoist admitted that he ‘isn’t sure’ about the Italian and he feels Manchester United should look to appoint French legend Zinedine Zidane instead, as he told talkSPORT (12/03/24 at 6:55 am).
Of course, Erik ten Hag is still in a job and the former Scotland striker was sure to acknowledge that.
But you just feel that each passing game for Manchester United is some sort of trial for the man in the dugout.
Whether someone like Zinedine Zidane wants the job is another argument altogether, but when names and figures like that are free in the market, then it becomes more tempting to part ways with your current under-fire coach.

“I am not sure about De Zerbi, if I am honest with you,” said McCoist.
“I think he is doing a good job, you are right, their form has dipped a little bit and I know they won at the weekend.
“But Manchester United need someone like a Zidane, there you are.
“The man Ten Hag is still in a job, that’s the first thing I have to say. I don’t like doing that, but unless you have got a plan, which clearly Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have, then there is no use talking about it.”

The issue for Manchester United is that Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are going to be bringing in new faces this summer.
If Man United want to appoint someone on the radar of those teams, then they have to make a pretty quick and early call on ten Hag.
The last thing they want to do is stick with him, start next season poorly and then, within ten games, he is out of the door.
That will only result in Man United being able to pick a small pool of top managers because a lot of them would have been snapped up.
