When a player who has caught the eye of Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle and West Ham United put pen to paper on a new contract at the end of January, you’d have been forgiven for assuming that the speculation over his future could be put to bed for another few months.

But there are times in which a new contract is signed not with the intention of seeing it out until it’s conclusion. Perhaps Shakhtar Donetsk merely wanted to ensure they would be negotiating from a position of renewed strength, while making certain that they were in a position to extract maximum value from their prized asset.

“The club want to get as much money as possible from my sale,” Georgiy Sudakov said a couple of weeks ago, while confirming that the Ukrainian giants had rejected a ‘40 million euro bid’ from reigning Serie A champions Napoli.

“(Shakhtar director Sergei) Palkin has said I can go to Europe in six months or a year. I trust him and the President.”

Arsenal and Man City watching Georgiy Sudakov?

HITC have been informed that, in addition to Napoli, Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich, at least four Premier League clubs are also keeping tabs on a player who has been labelled ‘the best football player’ in Ukraine and ‘more talented’ than Chelsea’s £88 million enigma Mykhaylo Mudryk

Liverpoo, per reports in Eastern Europe, are showing a ‘keen interest’ too.

The 21-year-old scored twice and set up another in a 4-1 midweek hammering of Chornomorets, firing Shakhtar into the final of the Ukrainian cup. After that last-four clash, Sudakov confirmed what most in the country have been thinking for a while, with a summer exit very much on the cards.

“I would like to look to the future, that I have the opportunity to move to another team,” Sudakov tells Sport Ukraine. “However, now everyone is watching and talking only about those players who score goals and give assists. I give an example of (Jude) Bellingham.

“For my situation, goals and assists are very important.”

Can Liverpool get another Jude Bellingham-like midfielder?

Liverpool famously missed out on Bellingham when the former Borussia Dortmund talisman completed his mega-money move to Real Madrid last summer. In Georgiy Sudakov, could the Anfield giants get the next best thing?

Not if Arsenal’s Ukraine international left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko can help it.

“I hope (Sudakov joins) Arsenal,” Zinchenko tells UA Tribuna, also urging The Gunners to take a look at another Shakhtar Donetsk star in Mykola Matviyenko.
