Tottenham Hotspur maintained their hopes of Champions League football by coming from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side came into the match in a very poor run of form – four defeats on the bounce – and morale on the floor.

Tottenham fans would have been fearing the worst when Burnley, who are now relegated from the Premier League, opened the scoring, but two goals from defenders, Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven, ensured that the points were staying in London.

This isn’t Spurs’ last home game – that will be on Tuesday night against Manchester City.

But given that it’s an evening match, the players and staff members did their lap of appreciation after the game against Burnley – and for some, it could be their final weeks at the club.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been in and out of the Tottenham side this season and was brought on as a late sub by his manager – his contract expires in 2025.

The 28-year-old stated on Instagram that he will ‘always try to push my limit’ after reflecting upon his campaign.

In the comments section of the midfielder’s post, he was lauded by one of his former teammates, Davinson Sanchez.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, the fighter for Tottenham

“A fighter, no matter the circumstances. Always there,” said Sanchez.

Will Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave?

The manager has spoken about changes needing to be made and you assume Hojbjerg could be one of them.

The player himself has spoken about his future and there have also been suggestions he could leave when the summer transfer window re-opens.

When you look at his lack of starts – he has only completed 90 minutes once since the turn of the year – then, it’s obvious he could be one of the players to make way.

Plus, he will have 12 months left on his contract. Either, the Danish star signs a new deal, which looks unlikely given that he doesn’t play as much, or Tottenham get the transfer fee they want for him in the summer.

The logical thing would be to get that transfer fee in, get him off the wage bill and then allow Postecoglou to invest it elsewhere and bring in someone who fits his all-action attacking style of play.
