The 2023/24 Premier League season has concluded and Arsenal have fallen short again.
After Arsenal beat Everton on the final day of the season, there was a sombre, yet uplifting mood inside the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta was keen to express the strong season his side had just produced, even if they were pipped to the Premier League title by Manchester City.
At the start of the campaign, many were expecting Arsenal to compete, but there were still some doubts lingering in the air.
Not because of the manager’s tactics or even those who were already at the club.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Martin Odegaard, to name a few, had just produced the best season of their careers.
It’s Arsenal’s summer recruitment that got many people talking and even questioning what Arteta was doing.
Ian Wright stated that ‘everybody went crazy’ at the signings of Kai Havertz from Chelsea and the loan deal to bring in David Raya from Brentford, as he told Match of the Day.
But they proved to be key players for the club and a reason why Arsenal took the Premier League title race to the final day of the season.
And now ahead of the summer transfer window re-opening, Wright has backed Edu Gaspar to bring ‘positive’ light into the team again.
Kai Havertz and David Raya at Arsenal
“I don’t know if that’s the major priority right now when you are looking at the goals that we have scored this season,” said Wright about Arsenal needing a striker this summer.
“I think what Mikel (Arteta) and Edu (Gaspar) do is going to be positive for the team. When we signed Kai (Havertz) everybody went crazy. When we brought in David Raya everybody went crazy, but he is trying to close these margins. If he feels that it’s a striker, (then buy him).”
Do Arsenal need to sign a striker?
It’s one question that has been constantly asked this season and it seems as though it will continue until Arsenal lift the title.
The name of Ivan Toney has been discussed for months and months, but Michael Owen has warned the club from securing that deal.

What about Newcastle United hitman Alexander Isak? Ian Wright thinks a deal could be done.
Either way, another huge summer transfer awaits Arsenal. It was obvious they needed Declan Rice last summer and they got him.
But this forthcoming window might not be as straightforward, both in terms of what areas they target and how much they can spend.
