» » » ‘But it’s not’: Jason Cundy is unhappy with who Chelsea are looking to sign now

Chelsea are preparing themselves for another summer of heavy spending.

On paper, the London club have signed some highly-rated talent, but the results on the pitch haven’t materialised in how they would have wanted.

It’s not where Chelsea fans wanted to be, but it was seen as a positive end to the season when they secured sixth spot, but then Mauricio Pochettino left.

The arrival of Enzo Maresca from Leicester City hasn’t changed anything, on the transfer front, with Tosin Adarabioyo joining as a free transfer before their new boss could even get warm in his seat.

It’s pretty obvious what is going on here. The people in the boardroom bring him the players and the coach does his work on the training pitch.

Whilst Adarabioyo is a proven talent and has played in the Premier League for several seasons, came through academy at Manchester City and also tasted Championship football.

The same can’t be said for Aston Villa’s chaotic forward Jhon Duran amid talk that he could be headed to Stamford Bridge.

Jason Cundy is unhappy at the prospect of Chelsea going down this road because of the 20-year-old’s lack of experience, as he told talkSPORT (12/06/24 at 4:45 pm).

The name of Dominic Solanke was brought up and how that’s the type of player Chelsea should be going for, but Cundy is resigned to the methods of these new owners.

Jhon Duran to join Chelsea?

“I felt we needed somebody more senior (than Duran), if I am honest,” said Cundy. “But all the players we seem to be linked with, other than Solanke, seems not to be the case.

“Solanke is in the middle of his career. I felt Jackson did well under the circumstances and, a bit like Rasmus Højlund, it was unfair for him to lead the line and put the responsibility solely down to him.

“Yes, you need back-up. Definitely. But it’s not the experience I was kind of hoping for.”

Jhon Duran is an incredible talent

On paper, Chelsea are getting a top, top player and someone who has bags of potential.

Villa fans dubbed him chaotic for a reason, because he causes havoc in the final third, uses his strong frame to very good use, doesn’t hesitate to shoot when given a chance and is very aggressive without the ball.

It’s a simple case of Duran having a lot of raw ability and needing to be coached for another several years before fans get to see the true version of him.

That’s where he would be wise to stay at Villa because Emery could do that, but it seems as though his immature nature is persuading his club to let him leave and take his talent elsewhere, with Gabby Agbonlahor talking about ‘problems’ behind the scenes.
