Exclusive: What Liverpool are saying about Al-Nassr's interest in Virgil van Dijk

HITC understands that Liverpool are confident of agreeing a new contract with Virgil Van Dijk this summer.

Under Arne Slot, the club are keen on working on new contracts for some of their key players this summer as Liverpool look to rebuild under a new manager.

HITC have previously reported that the club are working hard on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s renewal with the club confident that they will reach an agreement with the English defender to prolong his stay at the club.

Alexander-Arnold became the vice captain at the club and it appears the Englishman isn’t the only defender they are keen on renewing.

Club keen on extending Van Dijk stay

Sources have told HITC that the club are keen on Virgil Van Dijk remaining at Anfield and the Reds are confident that he will commit his future to Liverpool.

Van Dijk has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr and HITC sources understand that there is interest and he is one on their radar, being one of the Premier League’s big names.

However, HITC is told that Slot believes the club should be looking to retain Van Dijk – who has 12-months left on his current deal and Liverpool’s intention is to sit down with their captain and come to an agreement on fresh terms.

Slot’s Liverpool are understood to be keen on defensive additions this summer but Van Dijk’s experience is vital for the team going into a rebuild.

Liverpool keen on defensive addition

Despite the club being confident that Van Dijk will remain at Anfield, Liverpool are also keen on purchasing an additional defender with Lille’s teenage sensation Leny Yoro understood to be one name under consideration.

Yoro is attracting attention from across Europe but it appears Real Madrid are the favourites with the Frenchman understood to be keen on moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.

New deals for Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk are seen as priorities for the club in the coming months, despite the transfer window opening today.
