Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has had his say on Jurgen Klopp’s spell at Liverpool.

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic was one of the best defenders in the Premier League during his time at the club alongside Rio Ferdinand.

United were dominant with that centre-back pairing whilst their biggest rivals Liverpool were struggling to catch up with the Red Devils.

Under Jurgen Klopp, however, Liverpool have overtaken the Red Devils and that is down to the German who played a superb brand of football.

Vidic on Klopp

Vidic, despite playing for the Red Devils, has admitted the football played by Klopp’s Liverpool team was certainly exciting. He does say he noticed a dip in intensity last season.

When talking about the quality of Klopp and Pep Guardiola, Vidic told Sky Sports: “Their football is about moving without the ball playing the ball in the right area at the right time is what they’re about, Liverpool especially [stand out].

“Maybe not in the season just gone, but a couple of years ago, he was playing more direct, more running with a high intensity, it was exciting. He was trying to play a bit more with less running and they were doing well before the end of the season.”

Klopp was revolutionary for Liverpool, winning a Champions League trophy and the club’s first Premier League title in the league’s 34-year era.

Whilst United were faltering, jumping from one manager to the next, Klopp’s Liverpool were flourishing which is almost a total role reversal to the previous 20 years for both clubs.

Slot has big shoes to fill

Incoming manager Arne Slot, who previously managed Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title, certainly has big shoes to fill replacing Klopp.

The Dutchman has never managed in the Premier League and may struggle to strike up the same rapport with the Anfield fanbase that the German had during his nine year stint on Merseyside.

It is unclear who the Reds will target this summer under a new manager but it is imperative that the club get things right under a new head coach.
