Brendan Rodgers’ return to Celtic was a perfect one.

When you compare it to his first spell, there is no doubt that there were more hurdles to deal with this time around, but he still got the job done.

Celtic won the Scottish Premiership title and then ended the season by beating Rangers to win the Scottish Cup.

Now, attention will turn to the 2024 summer transfer market and what will happen at Parkhead.

You feel, for Celtic, it will probably be more about who leaves, than who is signed because there are some big clouds hovering around.

Matt O’Riley is proving to be the main talking point, but Mark Wilson feels there is another Celtic player of importance who could also leave.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s future at Celtic is in doubt and Wilson admitted that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if he heads for the exit door, as he told Clyde 1.

The 29-year-old is a legend in Glasgow, from winning the Treble to his goals against Rangers. But his form hit a brick wall this term.

Wilson thinks Brendan Rodgers ‘wants to keep’ the 21-cap Japan star, but feels, ‘if the price was right’, then Kyogo could go.

Kyogo Furuhashi to leave Celtic?

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he went,” said Wilson. “Just because of the way football is. I think everyone has a shelf life. There is the right time to sell everyone.

“I am not saying that’s right for Kyogo. It’s just the way football is. Maybe Brendan Rodgers has looked at the cycle that he has been through. Three years. Plenty of goals. But is he looking for something more? If the price is right.

“If the price was right, then I suspect the club model that Celtic have, if they are making money from it, then they will probably do it. One thing is for sure, you need to have somebody in the building or close to signing before you even attempt to let him go. You need someone more mobile (than Idah as a replacement). I think Idah is good at what he does. He is worth keeping at Celtic or trying to get the deal done. But you need someone like Kyogo. So mobile. Can play off the shoulder. Can get a goal out of nothing. You need someone to replace him. It will be an interesting one. I have no doubt Brendan Rodgers will want to keep. It’s whether it aligns with the club.”

Kyogo Furuhashi’s form for Celtic

In total, Kyogo netted 19 goals in all competitions for Celtic, after finding the back of the net a staggering 34 times during the previous campaign.

There was a drop-off, no doubt. Even Adam Idah started playing ahead of him after he arrived in January.

But one thing that didn’t change was his goals against Rangers.

Kyogo still managed two goals against the Gers, both proving to be crucial strikes, including the only goal of the game at Ibrox at the start of the campaign.
