'Maybe they got that one wrong': Alan Shearer has already shared David Moyes stance on West Ham striker target

West Ham United are looking to finalise a deal for a new striker but one potential signing seemingly didn’t convince David Moyes.

The Hammers are back in the market for a new striker yet again.

West Ham United’s inability to find strikers who can make a lasting impact is bordering on the ridiculous now.

The likes of Sebastien Haller, Gianluca Scamacca, Albian Ajeti and Danny Ings have been brought in but with limited success.

Michail Antonio has been a major hit for West Ham but he is now 34 and and managed just 11 Premier League goals across the last two seasons.

West Ham must bring in another goalscoring option for new boss Julen Lopetegui – and appear to be closing in on a signing.

West Ham United focus on Niclas Fullkrug

The top target for West Ham has been Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran.

Tim Steidten was confident of striking a deal for Duran last week and the Hammers were pushing for his arrival.

West Ham still haven’t met the £40million asking price though and HITC understands that the move for Duran has been ditched – for now at least.

The offer for Duran – worth up to £35million – has been left on the table but West Ham are now working on another deal.

HITC understands that West Ham are now in talks to land Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug.

Dortmund have snapped up Serhou Guirassy this summer and may be willing to let Fullkrug go.

Duran is the top target for Lopetegui but the West Ham boss is happy to go with Fullkrug as German director Steidten – who knows all about Fullkrug from the Bundesliga – pushes for the veteran striker.

David Moyes verdict on Fullkrug

Fullkrug is often branded as a ‘throwback’, a physical number nine who loves to battle against centre backs and cause problems in the air.

The 31-year-old is a big, burly figure – the kind of striker we don’t see all that often anymore.

Goals have flowed for Fullkrug in recent years, smashing 46 goals in 99 games for Werder Bremen before scoring 15 times for Dortmund last season.

A target man like Fullkrug won’t be to everybody’s taste and that seemingly applies to David Moyes.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football earlier this summer, Alan Shearer admitted speaking to Moyes about Fullkrug.

The former Hammers boss admitted that he thought Fullkrug was ‘missing one or two things’, meaning West Ham didn’t move to sign him.

However, Moyes looked into him a little more in the second half of last season and felt that West Ham had probably got Fullkrug wrong after all.

“I was speaking to David Moyes about him as well. And he was saying that they had a look at him [Fullkrug] at West Ham, but they just thought he was missing one or two things,” said Shearer. “But for the last sort of six months, he sort of reviewed it and thought, maybe they got that one wrong,” he added.

Fullkrug has previously hinted that he rejected a move to West Ham before choosing to join Dortmund.

Moyes only left West Ham a few months ago but may now see his former club pounce to sign Fullkrug after all.

Lopetegui is the main who will be charged with the task of getting the best out of Fullkrug, hopefully leading him to more success than many West Ham strikers in years gone by.

Agent of 'fantastic' Arsenal star urged to consider transfer U-turn over £50m move

One Arsenal star has been urged to reconsider his decision after agreeing terms to leave the club this summer.

The Gunners have strengthened their backline this summer with the signings of David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal announced the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori on Monday after completing a £42million move for the Italy international.

The North London side have also been busy thinning their squad with Emile Smith Rowe set to join Fulham in pursuit of regular first-team football.

Another Arsenal youngster who is inching closer to leaving the club is Eddie Nketiah, who has been linked with a move to Marseille.

It is understood that Nketiah has agreed personal terms with Marseille and talks are underway with Arsenal wanting a £50million fee.

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng shared a two-word message to Nketiah, encouraging him to join him in France.

Eddie Nketiah urged to reconsider transfer move

After falling down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order at The Emirates, it only seems a matter of time until Nketiah leaves this summer.

A move to Marseille is on the cards but Alan Pardew believes he should wait for Premier League interest.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Pardew said “I think he does need to move. I’ve watched him at Arsenal and I like him – he reminds me of Ian Wright.

“A very similar style to Ian – sharp, quick around the box, gets shots off quickly – I think he will score goals and I think he will score goals in the Premier League.

“If I was his agent I’d just wait a little while and see if somebody else from the Premier League comes in.”

Eddie Nketiah needs to leave Arsenal

Nketiah is held in high regard at Arsenal, and he was even branded “fantastic” by Ian Wright, but the harsh truth is that Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are ahead of him and the Gunners are still in the market for a new centre-forward.

Arsenal have watched Viktor Gyokeres in action as they weigh up an approach for the Sporting Lisbon star, and his arrival would only force Nketiah further down the list.

At 25 years old he is ready to lead the line for a big club – whether that be in the Premier League or overseas.

But Arsenal’s £50million price tag may price some English clubs out of a move.

‘Nerves of steel’: National media think one factor could soon turn Arsenal player in to a ‘world class’ star

Arsenal are gearing up for another Premier League title race after going so close in two successive seasons under Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners narrowly missed out in 2023 and some were doubting that Mikel Arteta would be able to pick his squad back up and go again.

In the end, Arsenal actually went closer last time around as they fell just two points shy of Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s men remain the benchmark and Arsenal are looking to find ways to finally overhaul City at the top of the table.

Goalkeeper David Raya has signed permanently and Arsenal have now secured Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

Those two deals should help Arsenal moving forward but it isn’t just about signings; Arsenal can find ways to improve from within.

German media on Kai Havertz

A number of Arsenal players really stepped it up last season.

Martin Odegaard took his game to another level, Ben White built on his partnership with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Magalhaes put himself in the upper echelon of Premier League centre backs.

That shows how Arsenal can improve without even making signings and Kai Havertz could be one to take the next step.

The German had a mixed start to life at Arsenal but ended the season as a fan favourite following his move from Chelsea.

Havertz wasn’t entirely convincing as a midfielder but really grew into a striking role in Arteta’s attack.

13 goals and seven assists in 37 Premier League outings was a very decent return for Havertz, though the Gunners have still looked at other strikers.

Arsenal wanted Benjamin Sesko before he chose to stay with RB Leipzig, whilst Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres has been scouted.

Havertz will be hoping to prove that the role is his to lose and the German media have delivered their verdict on him.

Kicker believe that Havertz was ‘decent’ at Euro 2024 and showed ‘nerves of steel’ to take a penalty against Denmark in the last 16.

However, Kicker feel that one thing is holding Havertz back from being a truly world class player.

They want to see Havertz play more games in the Champions League, believing that playing in Europe’s top competition will help him ascend.

“His nine goals and six assists almost helped Arsenal to the Premier League title. He put in a decent performance at the European Championships and showed particular nerves of steel during the penalty against Denmark. But to be considered world class, Havertz would have had to play more in the Champions League,” they wrote.

Arsenal have indeed qualified for the Champions League and Havertz will be central to their hopes of improving on last season’s run.

The Gunners were dumped out of last season’s Champions League in the quarter-finals, losing out 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.

Winning that tie would have seen Arsenal tee up a semi-final clash with Real Madrid, but it just wasn’t to be.

Arsenal haven’t quite got over the line in the Premier League and will need to step it up in order to compete with some of the Champions League’s very best.

Havertz may need to be the man to step up in the big moments given that he is leading the line, and he certainly has the quality in his locker to take the next step as a top striker.

‘Enormous potential’: National media think £35m defender can become a star as Newcastle United close in

Newcastle United will be looking to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad as the summer transfer window heads towards its final month.

The Magpies endured concerns over the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules in June.

Amanda Staveley has admitted she was worried about losing Alexander Isak whilst Liverpool were chasing Anthony Gordon.

Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold to ease those fears, joining Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively.

Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos joined Newcastle from Forest, arriving alongside Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy and Miodrag Pivas.

Lewis Hall’s move from Chelsea has been turned permanent too, but Newcastle fans will be hoping for further additions this summer.

German media on Newcastle United target

Newcastle may well be interested in adding another centre back this summer.

Jamaal Lascelles suffered a major injury in March and it’s unclear just when he will be able to return.

Fellow defender Sven Botman has now gone down with a major injury too, with Kelly able to cover as a left-sided centre back.

Newcastle could look to add another right-footed option though and AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw is on the radar.

HITC understands that Newcastle are close to signing Thiaw having moved towards a total deal worth £35million.

The 22-year-old joined Milan from Schalke in 2020 and has now made more than 40 Serie A appearances.

Newcastle appear to be closing in on the 6ft 4in defender and the German media certainly seem to be excited about his future.

Kicker believe that Thiaw has ‘enormous potential’ and has shown that when not suffering from injuries with Milan.

Ranked alongside Bernd Leno, Thilo Kehrer and Pascal Gross, Thiaw is viewed as being a ‘national class’ player rather than a world or international class player right now.

“He just managed to make it into the rankings. Injuries prevented him from playing more often, but when he played for AC Milan, the central defender proved his enormous potential,” they wrote.

Eddie Howe on Malick Thiaw

Newcastle seemingly believe in Thiaw’s potential, just like Kicker, and that is why they are making a move.

The Magpies may have concerns about Thiaw’s injuries but if he can take his game to another level – as many players have under Eddie Howe – then Newcastle will have a star.

Howe has actually commented on Thiaw, noting that the defender is a ‘very good player’ having seen him in Champions League action last season.

Howe wouldn’t be drawn on a deal but it’s clear that he has real admiration for the centre back.

“I’m always reluctant to comment on these things, but he’s a player I know about, of course I do, from our games in the Champions League against Milan,” said Howe. “And yeah, he’s a very good player, but that’s it,” he added.

Thiaw is certainly the priority for Newcastle right now and the Magpies will hope to get a deal wrapped up before the new Premier League season starts.

Viktor Gyokeres clause has been paid off, major transfer boost for Liverpool and Arsenal

A change to Viktor Gyokeres’ contract clause has just given Liverpool and Arsenal their best chance of landing him this summer.

Both Premier League clubs are in the market for a new striker as they look to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

One of the hottest strikers on the market right now is Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres after he ended last season with 43 goals and 15 assists across all competitions.

HITC revealed on Monday that Arsenal scouts were in attendance to watch Gyokeres in action against Athletic Bilbao over the weekend.

It is understood that Sporting are now prepared to accept bids under Gyokeres’ £86million release clause this summer amid interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Viktor Gyokeres clause paid off

Gyokeres signed for Sporting last year from Coventry City, and the Championship side inserted a sell-on clause in the deal.

The Sky Blues were set to be owed 15 percent of Gyokeres’ future fee, but Sporting have now reached into their pocket to lower that figure to 10 percent.

As reported by Portuguese outlet Record, a statement sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission reveals that Sporting paid 3 million Euros (£2.5million) to reduce Coventry’s sell-on fee to 10 percent.

It is a tell-tale sign that Sporting are preparing to sell Gyokeres this summer and have paid to lower his sell-on clause to ensure they get the lion’s share of the fee.

Clubs are now free to duel it out for Gyokeres’ signature with the Swedish international not short of options.

Manchester United have previously shown an interest in Gyokeres but their £36million move for Joshua Zirkzee has addressed their need for a striker this summer.

‘It feels weird’: Archie Gray blown away by ‘incredible’ Tottenham Hotspur player, can’t help but praise him

Tottenham Hotspur have pounced to sign Archie Gray and it seems that one teammate is already absolutely blowing him away.

Tottenham Hotspur have placed a keen focus on signing top young players in recent times.

Lucas Bergvall agreed to join from Djurgarden back in February, rejecting Barcelona for a move to Tottenham in the process.

Tottenham have followed that up by signing Archie Gray from Leeds United in a £40million move.

Another teenager has now agreed to sign with South Korean talent Yang Min-hyuk coming in from Gangwon.

Yang will head back to South Korea to continue his progress but Gray seems primed for a prominent Premier League role straight away.

Archie Gray on Son Heung-min

Gray is only 18 but he already has a full season of Championship football under his belt.

A midfielder by trade, Gray racked up 52 first-team appearances for Leeds United last season and played most of them at right back.

The teenager has now been asked to add another string to his bow by playing at centre back this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has been using Gray as a centre back, asking him to play centrally with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven unavailable.

Gray has equipped himself well and has admitted already loving Postecoglou due to his Celtic connections.

Gray has now opened up on Son Heung-min having joined forces with the Spurs captain this summer.

Speaking to Football London, Gray noted that he doesn’t even thinking Son has anything he could improve upon.

Gray has been simply blown away by how Son ‘sets the standard’ in training, believing that it is ‘incredible’ for him to be captain.

Gray added that Son has been ‘amazing’ for South Korea and branded him ‘incredible’ – despite it feeling ‘weird’ to praise a teammate so highly.

“There’s nothing that he could improve on,” said Gray. “Every day he sets the standard in training and I look up to him and I feel like I’m lucky to have a player like that in the team and for him to be captain is just incredible. I can’t speak highly enough of him. You know his quality in games, he’s been showing it for ten years now and internationally he’s been amazing. I don’t usually like speaking that highly of people in the same team as me, because it feels weird, but he’s incredible,” he added.

Gray should relish his time with Son

Gray is still making his way in the game and at just 18, it’s great for him to have somebody like Son to look up to at the highest level.

Son has been an incredible servant to Tottenham, racking up more than 400 appearances in nine years at the club.

Gray will learn so much from Son in terms of consistency at the highest level and how to look after yourself well enough to be available regularly.

There is a harsh reality with Son though; his time at the top may be heading towards its end.

Son is now 32 and he does appear to have lost half a yard of pace in recent times.

Son still has so much quality in his locker but he can’t go on forever and Gray should certainly relish the chance to learn from him whilst he is still at Tottenham.

There have even been previous links suggesting that Son is wanted in Saudi Arabia.

If Gray can learn a thing or two from Son, maybe he can become a Tottenham captain himself down the line and follow in Son’s footsteps.

‘His confidence’: Manager seriously impressed as new signing shines just days after quitting Leeds United

Leeds United have pounced to sign a new right back this summer as Cody Drameh’s time at Elland Road came to a permanent end.

Right back has been a problematic area for Leeds United in recent times.

Luke Ayling left the club last season as his time as the club’s first-choice right back ended.

Djed Spence’s loan move from Tottenham Hotspur didn’t work out and Connor Roberts wasn’t kept on after his loan from Burnley.

Archie Gray spent most of the season as a right back but he has now been sold to Tottenham.

Danish international Rasmus Kristensen has now joined Eintracht Frankfurt too, so right back has been a position of flux at Elland Road.

Cody Drameh praised after Leeds United exit

Leeds have now found the man they hope will be their right back of the future.

Jayden Bogle has joined Leeds from Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United and seems excited to be joining the Whites.

For a while though, many thought Cody Drameh could emerge as the long-term right back for Leeds.

The 22-year-old joined Leeds from Fulham back in 2020 and showed promise in limited appearances.

Loan spells with Cardiff City and Luton Town should have catapulted Drameh into first-team action at Leeds, but that didn’t happen.

A mixed loan spell with Birmingham City last season brought Drameh to the end of his Leeds contract.

Leeds did offer Drameh a new deal but he has instead decided to join Championship side Hull City – just a year since West Ham United wanted him.

Drameh will, rather ironically, compete for a starting spot at right back with former Leeds talent Lewie Coyle.

Drameh featured for Hull against Newcastle United on Saturday and his display has been hailed by boss Tim Walter.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, Walter admitted that he loved Drameh’s performance.

Walter praised Drameh’s style of play as well as his confidence, heaping praise on his new signing.

“I did, really I like him. I like his style of playing, his performance, his confidence, so I liked him,” said Walter.

Drameh will hope to haunt Leeds

Drameh always had potential at Leeds but it just never quite worked out for him there.

First-team opportunities just weren’t on offer and the time had come for him to move on and seek opportunities elsewhere.

Hull clearly believe that Drameh can become a key player at the MKM Stadium and Leeds will have to hope that losing Drameh doesn’t come back to bite them down the line.

Drameh will be in line for a quick return to Elland Road though as Hull take on Leeds away from home on the 31st of August.

The return fixture comes just days into 2025 and Drameh would no doubt love a victory or two over his former club.

Liverpool fans could be about to get the best news as Virgil van Dijk makes his feelings clear - opinion

The new Premier League season is around the corner and Liverpool have been the only big team to do very little business.

In fact, Arne Slot is yet to bring a senior face into the building and you wonder why the new signings aren’t coming in.

What makes matters worse for the Dutchman is that there are issues with three of his most important players.

If you asked every Liverpool fan to name the club’s three key players heading into the new campaign, then Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold would regularly be mentioned.

But they are all out of contract in 2025 and you have to question how the powers that be at Anfield have got to this situation.

In truth, over the last decade, the supporters have watched so many senior figures depart for nothing.

From Gini Wijnaldum to Roberto Firmino, they all left as free transfers and you worry that more could now follow suit.

Not only are Liverpool shooting themselves in the foot from a financial perspective, but they could be on the road to losing some of the most important players in their recent history, and with no replacements in sight!

Until now, for one of them, at least…

Virgil van Dijk wants new Liverpool contract

Sources have told HITC that van Dijk has made a decision on his Liverpool future and he wants to stay on Merseyside.

This will be music to the ears of, not only the supporters, but from the manager himself.

Slot needs all the help he can get to settle in, try to deal with the expectations, cope with his first 12 months at the club and try to replace Jurgen Klopp.

If he can have one of the best defenders in the world in his backline, then as he proved last season, it’s the best news for Slot and the fans.

Who will partner Virgil van Dijk

But Liverpool fans should be fuming that Manchester United signed Leny Yoro. He was a player that would have been perfect alongside van Dijk.

Yes, there is Jarell Quansah, with the 21-year-old having a breakthrough campaign last term and van Dijk sharing that he is always in Quansah’s ear.

But behind that, the injury-prone Ibrahima Konaté can’t be trusted, Joel Matip has left and Liverpool surely can’t go back to the old van Dijk-Joe Gomez partnership. They need to refresh!

'Massive': Archie Gray shares what his father told him about leaving Leeds United for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur continue to sign promising teenagers as Ange Postecoglou is given major talents for the future in North London.

The Premier League season is on the horizon and Tottenham Hotspur are looking to build on last term’s fifth-place finish.

Ange Postecoglou is looking for another strong campaign but some may be surprised by the club’s transfer approach.

With the signing of South Korean wonderkid Yang Min-hyuk, three of Tottenham’s last four signings have been teenagers.

Lucas Bergvall agreed to sign in January before Archie Gray came in from Leeds United, with Yang now signing on the dotted line too.

Tottenham appear to be collecting top young talents and there is so much excitement around Gray right now.

Archie Gray on Tottenham Hotspur move

Tottenham pounced to land Gray after an impressive season in the Championship last term.

The 18-year-old is a midfielder by trade but fared well in a right back role last season, helping Leeds reach the Championship playoff final.

Leeds missed out on promotion though and that forced the club into selling Gray.

Tottenham were happy to strike a deal and Gray has been catching the eye during pre-season with Ben Davies hailing him as ‘incredibly talented’.

Gray has been trialled as a centre back, with Postecoglou testing him there whilst Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin have been unavailable.

The hope is that Gray will be a versatile performer for a long, long time in a Tottenham shirt and he has now opened up on his decision to join Spurs.

Speaking to Football London, Gray admitted that his father Andy was telling him that he simply had to join Tottenham because the club is so ‘massive’.

Gray’s grandfather agreed too, with the family stance on joining Tottenham ultimately helping the teenager make up his mind.

“It’s a huge club and my dad said that too,” said Gray. “He came to my room one morning and said ‘look, you’ve got to go to Spurs. It’s a massive club’. My grandad was saying it as well, he’s obviously done pretty well in his career, and he said at some point you’ve got to go to one of the biggest clubs in England and he thinks now is the right time and he thinks Spurs is a massive club as well.”

“So, with people who have been advising me my whole life, I have to listen to them and I also wanted to do it too, so that was definitely a massive thing and since then I’ve enjoyed every second of it. So, definitely happy that I made that decision,” he added.

HITC understands that Postecoglou’s plans at Tottenham tempted Gray’s family into a deal.

Gray’s family profiled

Gray hails from a family of footballers and it’s clear that they had a major influence on his decision to move on from Leeds.

Father Andy came up in the Leeds United ranks before going on to play for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Preston North End, Bradford City, Sheffield United, Sunderland, Burnley and Charlton Athletic.

A physical striker in his playing days, Gray turned out twice for Scotland and managed 50 Premier League appearances.

Then there is grandfather Frank Gray, who also came through at Leeds and played more than 300 times for the club across two spells.

Gray also played for Scotland and became a manager with the likes of Farnborough Town, Grays Athletic and Woking in the 2000’s.

Archie’s great-uncle Eddie is the biggest name of the lot having played more than 450 times for Leeds in a storied playing career.

Still a prominent figure around Leeds to this day, Eddie Gray is the definition of a legend at Elland Road.

Having those former players around Gray is clearly a major help and they have pushed the teenager towards Tottenham – something Postecoglou and Spurs fans will be delighted about given his huge potential.

‘He’s changed a lot’: Arteta wowed by 'really good' Arsenal star who has transformed after win v Man United

Arsenal took a closer step to the start of the new Premier League season by beating Manchester United on Sunday.

Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli were the two goalscorers for Arsenal in the pre-season friendly at the SoFi Stadium in California.

Manchester United opened the scoring after just ten minutes when Rasmus Hojlund charged down the left-hand side, outmuscling his man, before squeezing the ball past Karl Hein.

But it didn’t take Arsenal too long to equalise, with Jesus levelling the scores after 26 minutes and Martinelli netting the winner four minutes from time.

Given that this is pre-season – regardless of the end result – the game still went to penalties, with Manchester United giving themselves something to cheer about because they came out on top.

But Arteta will be pleased with his team’s display because that all-important title is just inches away from them.

Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title on the last day of the previous campaign, with many now discussing what they need to get one over on Manchester City.

One ongoing discussion has been that number nine – Arsenal have been told to sign the ‘remarkable’ Ivan Toney.

But at the moment, it’s Jesus, who has had up and down injury issues since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, deploying that role against Man United.

Given that Arteta still hasn’t got a fully fit squad to pick from, Kai Havertz was used in the middle of the park.

After the game, Arteta shared his thoughts on Jesus’ performance and how he was ‘really good’.

But what is even more encouraging for the fans is that Arteta shared that Jesus has transformed over the summer and ‘changed a lot’, as he told Football London.

Gabriel Jesus helps Arsenal beat Manchester United

“He looks really good,” said Arteta. “He looks really sharp. He has changed a lot of things over the summer. He has come in top condition again. And when you have that baseline, other things can be built, but without that foundation, you don’t have a player.

“He needs to be in that condition to get the best out of him. He has realised that. And I’m really happy with what he’s shown today again.”

Do Arsenal need another striker?

Arsenal have produced two record-breaking seasons in front of goal – yet they still can’t get past Man City.

Putting the ball in the back of the net isn’t the issue, but the fact that their title rivals can make changes throughout their XI, without it denting their quality.

Sources have told HITC that Arsenal have booked a medical to sign Riccardo Calafiori and you feel he will aid that bench quality for the Gunners.

Tottenham's James Maddison makes 'quality' academy player claim ahead of new season

James Maddison has made a claim about the quality of the academy players coming through at Tottenham Hotspur according to assistant manager Matt Wells.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are in for an important season with the North London club failing to qualify for the Champions League last season, despite playing some exciting football.

Spurs have been busy in the transfer window with the Lilywhites signing teenage sensation Archie Gray from Leeds United.

As well as this, Spurs have signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgardens and Postecoglou also confirmed the club were closing in on signing Yang Min-Hyuk from Gangwong FC.

However, most of the talk during pre-season for Spurs has been about the quality of their academy.

Maddison makes academy player claim

Following the dominant 5-1 victory over Hearts during their opening game of pre-season, much of the talk from the Spurs fans was the quality of academy starlet Mikey Moore.

As well as 16-year-old Moore, Spurs also have promising striker Will Lankshear, who Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of and James Maddison has made a claim about these academy players.

According to Postecoglou’s assistant Matt Wells, former Leicester City midfielder Maddison made a big claim about the quality of the academy players.

“I was speaking with James Maddison, he was saying that he can’t believe some of the talent of our young players,” Wells told Spursplay.

it is certainly an exciting time for the club with Moore, Lankshear as well as new signings Bergvall and Gray, Postecoglou will certainly be loving the quality on show from these youngsters.

Postecoglou has to use talented academy players

The Australian certainly has talent on his hands coming through the Spurs academy but it is key he utilises it.

Moore, 16, has been compared to Lamine Yamal following his performance against the Scottish side but the Englishman’s future is uncertain.

HITC has reported that Moore has interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but Spurs are confident he will remain at the club.

Handing the talented teenager some first-team gametime next season would surely swing things in Tottenham’s favour in terms of holding onto Moore.

Erik ten Hag responds to reports Man United want second centre-back amid Matthijs De Ligt stance

Erik ten Hag has responded to reports that Manchester United want to sign a second centre-back this summer.

Manchester United confirmed the signing of Leny Yoro last week after HITC had reported that the Red Devils had stolen a march on Real Madrid to sign the French teenager.

Despite the Red Devils signing the promising defender Yoro, HITC understands that United are also interested in Bayern Munich defender Matthijs De Ligt, with the Dutchman becoming agitated that a move to Old Trafford has not materialised.

Ten Hag has been backed this summer with the Red Devils also signing Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee from Italian side Bologna for £34 million.

Ten Hag on possibility of signing second centre-back

United are preparing for their third season under the management of Ten Hag who looked to be on the brink following a rather disappointing season but the Dutchman managed to steer the club to a famous FA Cup victory.

This led to Ineos deciding to stick with the Dutchman and allow the former Ajax manager to add to his backroom staff.

Speaking to the media out in Los Angeles as United prepare for a pre-season game against Arsenal, Ten Hag was asked about the possibility of signing another centre-back.

“I think we are occupied [in that position] but we work continually,” Ten Hag told The Mirror. “The good thing is we already signed two players, but it belongs to a club like Manchester United that you are still looking – if the opportunity is there – for better and we still have time, until August 30.”

United’s transfer plans for the rest of the window

Sales may be key before United consider another deal with HITC reporting that the Red Devils would have to sell Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof to sign another centre-back.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been of interest to United but Everton are understood to be holding firm on their valuation of the Englishman, which is believed to be £70-80 million.

As for other positions, a midfielder is also understood to be an area United want to improve with the Red Devils keen on Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Pep Guardiola makes fresh statement about Man City future amid reports this will be his last season

Pep Guardiola has opened up about his future at Manchester City as speculation continues to mount over his future at the club.

Since becoming manager of Manchester City in 2016, Pep Guardiola has established himself as one of the greatest managers of all time as he has led the Citizens to six Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2023.

The rumours over Guardiola’s future went into overdrive when the Spaniard seemed to hint that this upcoming season could well be his last at the club.

City are going for their fifth Premier League title in a row and Guardiola has had his say on his future.

Guardiola opens up on Man City future

In the aftermath of City’s historic fourth successive Premier League title success, Guardiola raised doubts over his own future when he said he was “closer to leaving than staying”.

The Spaniard has just one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium so a decision will have to be made on his future sooner rather than later.

Speaking to the BBC about his future, Guardiola said: “I didn’t say I was leaving.

“Nine years at the same club is an eternity. I don’t rule out extending the contract. I want to be sure it is the right decision for the club and the players.

“When I decide, I will talk with my CEO and sporting director. But I want to start the season, and look at how everything is going and how connected we are. After, we will see.”

Guardiola’s decision set to have a knock on effect

The Spaniard’s decision could well have a big say on the future of multiple first team players including Kevin De Bruyne.

HITC has reported that De Bruyne is prepared to see out the final year of his contract at City before making a decision on his future amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

You wonder if the Belgian’s future depends on Guardiola’s future with the Spaniard labelling De Bruyne as a ‘legend‘.

Guardiola clearly has a big impact on his players with Jack Grealish keen to praise the former Barcelona manager for his man management skills.

Man City ace who has never played for the club now a 'main target' for European giants

Manchester City are on track to continue their impressive record of cashing in on young stars.

The reigning Premier League champions have capitalised on their dominance by investing in youth players that can be traded on for a huge profit.

With the exception of perhaps Cole Palmer, Manchester City are the masters of knowing when to let a player leave.

At least with Palmer, City still pocketed a hefty £40million fee for the academy star – although Chelsea are likely delighted with that deal.

City’s sale of youngsters has helped the club to balance their books while also funding their pursuit of big-money transfer deals such as those for Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku and Mattheus Nunes last season.

It has been an uncharacteristically quiet window so far for City with only Savinho arriving as a new signing.

But according to reports in Germany they are closing in on the departure of Yan Couto.

Borussia Dortmund lock in on Yan Couto

Couto has never played a senior game for Manchester City despite joining the club from Coritiba in 2020.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has been on three separate loan spells, including two to CFG-owned Girona.

Couto impressed at the La Liga side last season as Girona upset the odds to finish third in the table behind only Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Now, a report from Christian Falk states that Borussia Dortmund have made Couto a “main target” this summer.

“One player at Manchester City, Yan Couto, who was on loan with Girona this season, is a very concrete option for Borussia Dortmund. He’s one of the main targets,” he wrote via CaughtOffside.

Manchester City transfer news

Savinho has been the only player to arrive at the Etihad Stadium this summer in a £30million deal and Pep Guardiola is confident that he will have a similar-looking squad next season.

One player who could force his way out of City this summer is Julian Alvarez, who has held talks with Atletico Madrid over a potential move.

Kevin De Bruyne’s future has also been cast into doubt amid interest from the Saudi Pro League, but Guardiola insists he is going nowhere.

‘More talent than all of them’: Liverpool told key player could end up joining Bayern Munich

Liverpool fans will get to see Arne Slot’s team in action for the first time on July 27 when they take on Real Betis.

The Reds have already got their legs pumping for pre-season, but those games have been behind closed doors.

But now supporters will get to see what their new manager has in store, with the team currently in the USA preparing for the new Premier League season.

Unless something drastic happens, there will be no new faces on show because Liverpool are yet to make their mark in this summer’s transfer window.

It’s probably frustrating the fanbase because they are watching Arsenal book a medical for Riccardo Calafiori ahead of his transfer.

Aston Villa have signed Amadou Onana from Everton, Chelsea are concluding deals left, right and centre, whilst Tottenham’s best transfer signing so far is Archie Gray.

This should be slightly concerning for Liverpool supporters because the new campaign is less than a month away.

What will be even more worrying is that three key players – Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – all have 12 months running on their deals.

How Liverpool have got themselves to this situation is baffling and it just risks the chance of those players heading for the exit door.

Dean Saunders thinks Alexander-Arnold could be one of them as he didn’t just tip a move to Real Madrid for the right-back, but he thinks he could even ‘end up at Bayern Munich’, as he told talkSPORT (24/07/24 at 8:40 am).

The former striker was discussing how, for England, Alexander-Arnold, who wasn’t the main starter at right-back, has ‘more talent than all of them’.

Trent Alexander-Arnold at Bayern Munich

“He is a quarterback, you need players who he can ping passes to like Salah and Mane,” said Saunders.

“Trent will probably end up at Real Madrid. He will end up playing in midfield for Real Madrid or right-back for Real Madrid. Or he will end up at Bayer Munich.

“Talent-wise, Trent’s got more talent than all over them (England right-backs).”

Trent Alexander-Arnold should leave Liverpool

Liverpool fans might not like to hear it, but the time is now and he should look to open up a new chapter in his career.

At the age of 25, he has achieved everything he would have wanted with his boyhood club and he will be a legend for life.

But Alexander-Arnold is more than good enough to showcase his attacking talent for teams like Real Madrid and Bayern.

Alexander-Arnold was recently spotted with Jude Bellingham, as the exit rumours ramp up and his own supporters pray that he ends up signing a new contract.

Man United star hailed an 'absolute monster' is now set for shock new role under Erik ten Hag

The new owners at Manchester United have put their faith in Erik ten Hag to lead the club next season.

The Red Devils underwhelmed last season and limped to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League – the worst in the club’s history.

Erik ten Hag‘s poor league results put him on the brink of being sacked, but a remarkable victory over rivals Manchester City saw his side upset the odds to lift the FA Cup.

After deliberating over the summer, Manchester United‘s minority owners Ineos stuck with Ten Hag and offered him a new contract at Old Trafford.

They have now backed him financially in the transfer window with deals for Joshua Zirkzee and exciting young centre-back Leny Yoro already complete.

United remain in talks with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt, with the former Ajax defender unhappy with the German giants for not lowering their asking price.

They also have submitted two bids for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite and have kept Benfica defender Antonio Silva on their radar.

Erik ten Hag ready to experiment with new role

United suffered an injury crisis in defence last season with Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez all spending time on the sidelines.

Therefore, it’s hardly a surprise that United have moved quickly to bolster their defensive department this summer.

However, according to a report from GiveMeSport, Ten Hag is now ready to experiment with Martinez in a new role.

The report suggests that Ten Hag may deploy Martinez in a midfield enforcer role if Casemiro leaves this summer.

He may also fill in as an emergency left-back with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both spending the majority of last season injured.

Manchester United hunt for new midfielder

A defensive-minded midfielder is towards the top of United’s shopping list this summer.

With Casemiro linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, United may be left short in the centre of the park.

Talks are continuing with Paris Saint-Germain for Manuel Ugarte, but progress over the deal has stalled with both clubs unable to agree a suitable fee.

It would be a disaster if United head into the new season without a new midfield signing, but experimenting Martinez there could give Ten Hag another option.

The aggressive Argentine is a favourite at Old Trafford, not only among the fans but also with his teammates – Luke Shaw branded him an “absolute monster” last year.

'His style of play': Arsenal-bound Riccardo Calafiori thinks Manchester City star is his 'closest' comparison

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori as they look to take down Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have come up short twice in a row, just failing to pip Manchester City to the Premier League title.

Arsenal came even closer last year, taking the tile race right down to the final day of the season.

City still came out on top but Arsenal are now looking to finally overhaul Pep Guardiola’s side this time around.

Perhaps it will be a case of third time lucky for Arsenal, with the Gunners now ready to bring in another new signing.

Goalkeeper David Raya has already signed permanently but Arsenal are now ready to spend on Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori too.

Riccardo Calafiori on Premier League comparison

HITC understands that Calafiori is set to undergo a medical with Arsenal ahead of completing a £34million move to North London.

The Italian defender impressed at Euro 2024 and is now ready to secure a big Premier League switch.

Formerly of Roma, Calafiori can play as a centre back or left back and his versatility will be welcomed by Arteta.

Jakub Kiwior may not share that excitement though as Arsenal are now ready to sell the Pole as Calafiori prepares to sign.

Calafiori’s ability to step forward with the ball will certainly be an asset and we may even see him inverting into a central midfield position at Arsenal.

That will evoke some comparisons towards John Stones, who has been vital to Guardiola’s success with City.

Calafiori has even made the comparison himself last season with The Athletic quoting him as saying that Stones is his ‘reference’ when going into midfield.

“His style of play is closest to mine,” Calafiori said. “Stones is my reference. It’s not off-the-cuff when I go into midfield. It’s following the guidelines of the coach. He saw me in this role. I’ve learned oceans off him. The coach is revolutionary, smart, demanding and clear in what he wants,” he added.

That description of former Bologna boss Thiago Motta sounds very similar to Arteta and he may well receive similar instructions from the Spaniard.

Stones really developed his game as a holding midfield player under Guardiola, moving into the engine room with great effect.

The England international was more of a conventional centre back at Euro 2024 but the success of his role with City has changed the game for many defenders – both centre backs and full backs – who are now being asked to go into midfield.

Calafiori could be one of them given that Oleksandr Zinchenko has operated in a similar manner during his time with Arsenal.

Watching Calafiori develop into that role should be great to watch, especially having seen glimpses of his quality on the ball at Euro 2024.

Calafiori will be studying Stones but also trying to take him down as Arsenal launch another Premier League title push – and Arteta will hope that his new man can make the difference.

‘Not at all’: Arsenal told Mikel Arteta won’t sign ‘very confident’ player now

Arsenal are yet to make a big move in this summer’s transfer market, but all of that could change pretty soon.

Mikel Arteta and his players are on their pre-season tour of the USA and they should be getting new faces joining the squad.

The one on everybody’s lips is Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori. The Gunners have been chasing him all summer.

But now sources have told HITC that Arsenal have scheduled a medical for Calafiori and a move is imminent.

Last season, Arsenal had the best defence in the Premier League and now they are strengthening it even further.

That’s very much needed given that Arsenal lost out to Manchester City for the Premier League title on the last day of the previous campaign.

But that’s the defence, how about adding some firepower before the new Premier League season kicks off?

It’s a fairly easy opening for the club because they host Wolves on August 17, but that’s when things get tough because the next set of matches are going to test them.

Either way, Perry Groves wants his former side to bring in a striker, with KaI Havertz and Gabriel Jesus leading the line last term.

The name of Ivan Toney was put forward, with Groves stating that he is a ‘very confident’ player, but he just doesn’t think Arteta wants to sign him, as he told talkSPORT (23/07/24 at 4:40 pm).

Mikel Arteta won’t sign Ivan Toney

“I still think we need a centre-forward,” said Groves. “Arteta said ‘when you are chasing, you have to keep getting better’.

“I always think you should have three new signings every season. But those players have to be first-team players. I would go for Ivan Toney.

“No, not at all (I don’t think Arteta will sign him). I think because Ivan Toney is very confident. Maybe he thinks, because of the high intensity and closing Arsenal want to play, that Toney might not do that. But I think he could. I think he is mobile enough. He can drop deep and link up.”

Ivan Toney’s future

Sources have told HITC Arsenal’s transfer stance on Toney, with the Brentford player keen to leave as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

The 28-year-old has shot himself in the foot because, even though Bukayo Saka is ‘in awe’ of Toney, his recent ban has probably cost him.

READ MORE: 50 MOST LIKELY PREMIER LEAGUE, EFL AND EUROPEAN SUMMER 2024 FOOTBALL TRANSFERS

Toney only returned to action in January and it meant that he had no sharpness to his game.

As a result, he only managed four Premier League goals and was lucky Gareth Southgate selected him for England’s Euro 2024 squad.

‘Number one’: National media think £21.5 star is now the best in the league after leaving Arsenal

Arsenal are in the market for another midfield player this summer as they look to replace the influence of Granit Xhaka at the Emirates Stadium.

Who would have expected Granit Xhaka to become so difficult to replace at Arsenal?

Xhaka always had quality in his locker but was often criticised for being rash in the tackle and his Arsenal career appeared to be over after a spat with his own fan in 2019.

The Swiss midfielder knuckled down, got the fans back on his side and ended up leaving a hero when the time came to leave.

Xhaka moved on to Bayer Leverkusen for £21.5million last summer and Arsenal’s attempts to replace him have been a little unconvincing so far.

Kai Havertz was tried there but is better off in attack whilst fellow summer signing Declan Rice has split his time between holding midfield and a more advanced role.

Fabio Vieira has yet to really explode as an Arsenal player and Xhaka has taken his game to another level in Germany.

Granit Xhaka praised by Germany media

Xhaka immediately became a key man for Xabi Alonso and helped Leverkusen enjoy a simply incredible season.

Leverkusen went through a completely unbeaten domestic season, winning both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal without losing a game.

Their only defeat in all competitions was in the Europa League final, meaning Xhaka was so close to an unbeaten treble.

Xhaka understandably claims to miss Arsenal but he has enjoyed quite the ride in his first year with Leverkusen.

The 31-year-old was outstanding at Euro 2024 too and few are really in any doubt of Xhaka’s elite-level qualities.

Kicker have now ranked Xhaka as their top defensive midfielder in the Bundesliga – even if he is just short of their ‘world class’ category.

They suggest that Xhaka’s consistent excellence means there is no debate – he is ‘number one’ in the Bundesliga.

Kicker did note that his performances in the second half of the season were slightly worse than his teammate Exequiel Palacios, but that Xhaka still deserves to be the top dog in German football.

“Week after week, he has consistently demonstrated at a very high level how important he is as a key player for Xabi Alonso’s team. There is no question for the kicker editors that the spirited Swiss will remain number one, just like in the winter, even if his average marks in the league are slightly worse than those of his teammate Palacios,” they wrote.

Arsenal seek Xhaka replacement

That just goes to show the kind of player Arsenal have lost.

Arsenal just haven’t quite found the ideal replacement for Xhaka just yet and that could be resolved this summer.

HITC understands that Arsenal are interested in signing Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino.

An experienced, left-footed midfield player with a great passing range and the ability to make a difference going forward, you can certainly understand why Arsenal view Merino as a Xhaka replacement.

It’s a high bar to live up to but having already struck up a strong bond with Martin Odegaard from their time together at Real Sociedad, Marino could be the man for Arsenal as Xhaka prepares for another big season with Leverkusen.
