Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott has opened up on his decision to leave the North London club this summer.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have signed Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray this summer with the former Leeds United midfielder understood to be impressed and convinced to join after a chat with the Australian.

The North London club are understood to be keen on a new striker signing this summer and do like Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez.

However, despite Spurs’ need for a new centre-forward, the club have made a decision to part ways with academy graduate Troy Parrott.

Parrott explains decision to depart Spurs

After multiple loan spells away from the Lilywhites, the club and player have seemingly decided to part ways this summer.

Parrott has decided to depart the Premier League and move to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar and, speaking to Voetbal International, he has explained the decision.

“Before I signed here, I heard a lot of good stories about AZ and I spoke to Kenzo Goudmijn, among others, with whom I became friends when I played with him,” he said.

“I think AZ is the perfect club for me to take the next steps in my development.

“I will take with me the useful experience of last year. It helps me that I already played in the Netherlands last season and am therefore used to the competition and life here.”

It was a loan move to Dutch side FC Excelsior that seemingly convinced AZ of his qualities and Spurs have now lost one of their most promising academy players.

Parrott departs Spurs after never really making an impact

As mentioned, the Englishman had multiple loan spells away from the club, including at MK Dons and Championship side Milwall but he never really impressed.

He netted 10 times in the Eredivise for Excelsior last season and that has seemingly been enough to earn him a move to one of the bigger sides in the country.

Throughout his career, Parrott has only ever hit double figures for goals once and that was during his time in the Dutch league so a move there makes a lot of sense.
