Dominic Solanke is Tottenham Hotspur’s latest addition and perhaps their best signing of the summer transfer window so far.
It has been 12 months since Harry Kane left his boyhood club and joined Bayern Munich, yet the moment he returns, the new striker is in the building.
Tottenham were beaten 3-2 by Bayern Munich in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, with Kane coming off the bench and making his first return to Spurs.
By then, Solanke’s transfer to Tottenham had been confirmed, with the 26-year-old arriving from Bournemouth in a club-record deal.
Tottenham have made a huge squad upgrade by signing Solanke, with the one-time Chelsea academy product aiming to make his debut under Ange Postecoglou away at Leicester City next weekend.
One thing is for sure, Solanke is going to be looking forward to playing alongside some high-quality players and a huge step up from what he was around at Bournemouth.
Tottenham’s new boy had already sung the praises of two players as soon as he walked through the doors at Hotspur Way.
And this should start getting the excitement levels building ahead of what could be a very interesting season for the club.
Dominic Solanke hails James Maddison and Son Heung-Min
Solanke has played alongside James Maddison before for England, so they will be familiar with each other’s game.
The 19-goal striker labelled Maddison as a ‘top guy’, whilst he also waxed lyrical about Son Heung-min and how he is a ‘fantastic player’, as he told Tottenham’s official website.
“Obviously, Heung-Min Son is a fantastic player,” said Solanke.
“He’s been doing what he’s been doing in the Premier League for many years now and there’s many players like I mentioned before throughout the whole team that have got great qualities. At a big club like Tottenham, you expect to be around great players and I’m looking forward to mingling with them.
“I’m familiar with James Maddison, we’ve spent some time at England together, he’s a top guy, obviously a great player as well so he’s one familiar face that I already know and I’m excited to meet the rest of the boys as well.”
Dominic Solanke under Ange Postecoglou
Yes, Spurs have paid big bucks for the player, with Liverpool benefiting from Tottenham’s Solanke deal, but it’s what they need.
Kyle Walker-Peters expressed his delight at Tottenham signing Solanke, with the Englishman a very popular player and someone who Postecoglou can take to the next level.

Postecoglou’s all-action style of play will create chance after chance for Solanke and you can see him hitting 20+ Premier League goals this term.
Say it quietly, but Solanke is an Arsenal fan, but scoring the winner in the north London derby in September will make him an instant hero with the Spurs supporters.
