Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of yet another Premier League campaign as Ange Postecoglou prepares for his second full season in charge.

August is upon us and that means the new Premier League campaign is less than two weeks away.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will be looking for more progress under Ange Postecoglou after a fifth-place finish last term.

Spurs missed out on the Champions League but will have Europa League football on show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Postecoglou’s approach had its ups and downs but Tottenham certainly improved from a fairly disastrous end to the 2022-23 season.

Postecoglou must now take another step forward this season – and some of his players have to do the same.

Brennan Johnson on Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min

Tottenham fans will be desperate to see Brennan Johnson kick on.

The Welshman joined Tottenham from Nottingham Forest last summer and showed some promising signs.

Johnson racked up five goals and 10 assists in 32 Premier League games last season, averaging close to a goal involvement every other game.

Johnson really showed some development in terms of attacking balls across the box, often finding himself in the right place at the right time.

Glenn Hoddle praised Johnson for that side of his game but Johnson must now kick on and prove that he can become Tottenham’s star forward for years to come.

That is exactly what Son Heung-min managed to do after an up-and-down first season at Tottenham back in the 2015-16 season.

Now Spurs captain, it’s easy to forget that Son actually wanted to leave Tottenham after his first campaign in North London.

Son has become a Tottenham hero for life and Johnson has now paid tribute to the South Korean star.

Speaking to That’s Football TV, Johnson admitted that ‘everyone definitely loves’ Son inside Tottenham.

Johnson noted that Son is actually more vocal than many people would expect and leads by example in terms of his performances.

The Wales international added that Son is a ‘really good captain’, noting the level of respect he carries at Spurs.

“Everyone definitely loves him, he’s such a great person,” said Johnson. “As a leader, he’s actually probably a bit more loud than most people would think. He’s definitely a leader in how he plays, because everyone has full respect on his career and how much of a great player he is, but also in terms of talking, in the changing room, day to day, he’s really good at that as well so I think he makes a really good captain,” he added.

This kind of praise for Son is nothing new.

Summer signing Archie Gray hailed Son just last week, praising him as a simply ‘incredible’ player.

Pedro Porro even stated that it is a ‘pleasure’ to play alongside Son, so it’s clear that he is loved inside Tottenham.

Spurs fans should cherish Son whilst he is still playing; now 32, Son may be phased out in the years to come.

Son will certainly leave a great legacy whenever he moves on, and will hopefully have helped Johnson become an even better player.
