Arne Slot will have to make some cut-throat decisions if he is to succeed as Liverpool boss.
The Dutchman has made a promising start to his tenure as Liverpool boss with a 3-0 win over Manchester United rounding off a very impressive pre-season tour.
But Arne Slot‘s biggest tests are ahead of him and, at Liverpool, the spotlight is always on the manager.
Jurgen Klopp thrived under the immense pressure but even the loveable German had spats with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane during his time as manager.
All eyes will be on Slot’s lineup against Ipswich Town on August 17th as the Dutchman has some big calls to make.
One area of focus will be on who Slot trusts to lead his attacking line.
Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota?
Having two great forwards to pick from can be a blessing or a headache – and for Slot it is the latter at the moment.
Diogo Jota has impressed during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States but Darwin Nunez will expect to be a starter when he returns from his lengthy summer break.
The Reds forked out £85million to sign the Uruguayan striker, but his inconsistency in front of goal has caused frustration.
Slot has a big choice to make between the striker duo, and Frank Leboeuf has urged him to side with Jota.
Speaking on ESPN, Leboeuf said “I think this is the last chance for Darwin Nunez.
“I think he [Slot] will give him his confidence and see if it works. We are talking about Liverpool, we are talking about a club who had Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez – I mean, that is huge.
“You are not there to miss chances. I really think that Diogo Jota is more precise than Darwin Nunez.

“Nunez is too clumsy right now. We saw him during the Copa America and that was the same player, there was no Anfield pressure.
“I’m sorry, but he is clumsy and as a striker you have to score goals.”
