Manchester City sources insist there are no issues with Ederson and have told HITC they plan to open talks with the Brazilian over a new deal.

Ederson looked set for a move to the Saudi Pro League with the Brazilian goalkeeper about to be the highest-paid player in his position in the world.

HITC understands that Manchester City had already engaged in contract talks with Ederson before the summer, as he has just two years left on his current deal with the Premier League champions.

However, as we revealed, City were left ‘shocked and surprised’ by Ederson and his representatives when they were told that they wanted to consider their options.

Saudi Pro League deals fail to materialise for Ederson

As mentioned, It had emerged that the Pro League had deals lined up to make Ederson the highest-paid goalkeeper in world football.

Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr are understood to have made a contract offer to the former SL Benfica goalkeeper but no agreement on the fee was forthcoming.

HITC had been told that City were demanding £40 million for the Brazilian but that was a fee that neither Saudi side came close to paying.

Al-Nassr signed his compatriot Bento instead, whilst Al-Ittihad have raided Real Mallorca for Predrag Rajkovic.

Now that a move to the Saudi Pro League is seemingly off the agenda this summer, City are planning to hold talks with Ederson about his future at the Etihad Stadium.

City plan on handing Ederson bumper new contract

Since joining City back in the summer of 2017, the Brazilian has gone on to be one of the most influential signings made under Pep Guardiola.

City and Guardiola still believe they have the best goalkeeper in world football and do not blame him for looking at the huge money on offer from the Saudi Pro League.

HITC understands that City will look to put a deal on the table that will see him become one of the top paid keepers in Europe.

As long as the Brazilian sees his future at City then a new contract may well be in the offing. However, if the player rejects the chance to sign a new deal, the Premier League champions will assess their goalkeeping options.

City’s Stefan Ortega signed a new deal at the club earlier this summer with the Citizens contingency planning in case the Brazilian departed the club.
