Celtic head into the international break exactly where they expected themselves to be.

Last season, when Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic, many probably expected the team to pick up from where they left off under Ange Postecoglou and start like a house on fire.

It wasn’t meant to be, but the title was still delivered, as well as a memorable last-minute Scottish Cup final win over Rangers.

Fast forward to the present and Celtic have outclassed Rangers again to further showcase the gulf in class between the two, even if Graeme Souness thinks otherwise.

After that game, a lot of talk was around the win for the Bhoys and how they are pulling further and further away from their rivals.

But in case anyone missed it, a certain James Forrest made his 500th appearance for the club when he came off the bench in another Glasgow derby win for the attacker.

The 33-year-old will soon become Celtic‘s richest player, in terms of trophies won, as he is currently on 24 honours in the green and white.

Forrest only needs two more winner’s medals and he will surpass the outright leader, Bobby Lennox and it’s something he will richly deserve.

Given that someone stands so highly in the history of the club, you would presume they would be lauded and applauded everywhere they go.

But, according to Chris Sutton, he thinks Forrest, even despite his trophy list, is still an ‘under-appreciated’ at Parkhead.

Neil McCann agreed with his fellow pundit and added how it’s ‘very, very special’ that he has got to such a feat in his career, as he told Sky Sports Football (01/09/24).

James Forrest’s 500 appearances for Celtic

“It’s quite unbelievable, isn’t it,” said Neil McCann. “He came through the academy. He has had such an impact on this football club. 500 appearances is something very, very special.”

Sutton added: “I have always felt that James Forrest is slightly under-appreciated.”

More trophies heading Celtic’s way

It’s only September and Celtic already have a five-point lead over Rangers after they were comfortably beaten at the weekend.

The gap between Celtic and Rangers is huge and you expect nothing but more trophies to be added to the cabinet this season.

It needs to be remembered that the team were nowhere near their best last season, yet Rodgers romped up and won two trophies.

As the Irishman proved in his first stint, he can well and truly take Rangers and the rest of Scotland to the cleaners if he really gets going.
