Arsenal showcased their Premier League title credentials in the north London derby on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta was without Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, yet it didn’t affect their performance and ability to pick up a win.

Gabriel Magalhaes’ header won the game against Tottenham, with Arsenal fighting and defending for their lives in a tense and emotionally charged match.

Before the game, all the talk was about the London club’s midfield and the fact that they were missing two key players.

But there was another topic, which you wouldn’t have missed, because it is a tradition in the north London derby.

At the Highbury or the Emirates, or at White Hart Lane or Tottenham‘s new stadium, this fixture has always delivered and produced mouthwatering matches.

But it is done with Tottenham wearing their all-white traditional colours and their rivals donning the red and white.

However, in the lead-up to the weekend match, Arsenal weren’t allowed to wear the home colours because it apparently had ‘too much white’.

Whilst Ian Wright was delighted with Arsenal winning the bragging rights in such a huge game, he was annoyed that they weren’t allowed to wear their usual colours, as he told Premier League Productions (16/09/24 at 1:15 pm).

Tottenham and Arsenal kits

“From a Tottenham and Arsenal point of view, in the derby and what it means,” said Wright. “For us to not wear the red and white kit, for something to do with too much white in the kit. It’s crazy.”

Tottenham problems, Arsenal joy

Tottenham now have a mountain of problems and the pressure is already mounting on manager Ange Postecoglou.

What makes matters worse is that Arsenal are flying in the Premier League and there is every chance they can win the title this season.

That’s what will hurt the Spurs fans the most, even if Postecoglou is saying otherwise.
