Declan Rice has now been booed a fair few times since he joined Arsenal last summer.

Mikel Arteta pushed Arsenal to pay a club-record transfer for the midfielder and they haven’t looked back because he has been outstanding for them.

Rice moved to the Emirates from West Ham United, where he was the captain and he won the Europa Conference League under the stewardship of David Moyes.

West Ham fans still booed him last season when he returned to the club, but he had the last laugh when he scored at the London Stadium during a thumping win for Arsenal.

When Rice scored against the Hammers, he decided against celebrating, out of respect for a club that did so much for him.

Rice has been at it again, but this time on England duty and he has a partner in crime in Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

England beat the Republic of Ireland in a UEFA Nations League encounter – a country he represented three times at the start of his career.

But the 25-year-old decided he wanted to represent England instead when things started going on the up at West Ham.

In a Hollywood-like script, Rice opened the scoring against Ireland, but he was booed by the Dublin fans during the game.

Despite that, he opted against celebrating and his actions were slammed by Jason Cundy who couldn’t understand why he was apologising.

Cundy felt that Rice should have celebrated like Grealish when he scored his goal and that he should have ‘rubbed their noses in it’, as he told talkSPORT.

Declan Rice doesn’t celebrate against the Republic of Ireland

“Declan Rice getting England off to a flyer,” said Cundy. “He was good Rice in the first half, really good, movement playing in the ten position, dropping deep, picking the ball up, him and Kobbie Mainoo swapping places at times.

“The movement was fluid, really good, but you have got to celebrate your goal, Declan. You have got to celebrate your goal! You have been booed for the whole time in that first half, you managed to score, celebrate and rub those noses in it. Exactly what Grealish did. Enjoy playing for England, enjoy scoring for England, apologising?!

“I know you sometimes do that with your former clubs, but come on, you only get one country. I know you played three games for Ireland. But really, you only ever play for one country at a major tournament. Do not apologise for that.”

Declan Rice searching for more trophies

For England and at club level, Rice is searching for more trophies after getting a taste of the Conference League with West Ham.

Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title last season and they have already dropped points after three matches.

That won’t be the biggest issue for Arteta, it’s the fact that Manchester City have made a 100% start to the new campaign.

But Arsenal face Tottenham and Manchester City after the international break, so they can put that right themselves and put the pressure on their rivals.
