Tottenham fans will feel they have returned to their old ways under Ange Postecoglou.

In recent years, Tottenham have had trophy-winning coaches in their dugout – Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, but it didn’t work out and they left trophyless.

The sense was that they didn’t play the ’Tottenham way’, with the club and its fans used to an attacking and free-flowing brand of football.

But now, Postecoglou has brought an all-action style to the table and it has got a previously disgruntled fanbase onside.

One other thing Spurs fans have also been used to in decades gone by is watching some seriously good players don their famous white colours.

Just looking at the modern times, from Real Madrid’s Champions League-winning midfielder Luka Modric to Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer, Harry Kane.

Kane joined Bayern Munich last summer in pursuit of trophies, but he proceeded to finish the season empty-handed in another body blow to the player.

Harry Redknapp was in the White Hart Lane dugout when the England captain was coming through the ranks and being coached by Tim Sherwood.

The former Premier League boss admitted that he never expected Kane to reach such heights in his career and that he was just ‘decent at everything without being fantastic’, as he told talkSPORT.

On Tuesday night, Kane earned his 100th cap for England and topped it off by netting a brace in a 2-0 win over Finland in the UEFA Nations League.

Redknapp lauded the 31-year-old for his achievements, how he is a legend despite suggestions that he isn’t and how he is now ‘absolutely top-level’.

Harry Kane earns 100 England caps

“He was a young player, we felt he would be a player,” said Redknapp. “But what level? Even then, we couldn’t sit there and say ‘he is going to be a Premier League player, for sure and he is good enough to play for Spurs’.

“Tim Sherwood and Les Ferdinand, who were working with him, they had great belief in him, but who could envisage that he could go on to get 100 caps and be what he has become?!

“He was a good all-round player, you thought ‘is he quick enough? Is he this?’. He was decent at everything without being fantastic at anything, but he worked and trained. He was one of them boys that every day after training, he was out on the training ground. He would put his spikes on. Do sprints and wanted to get quicker. He was also a good lad. He deserves what he has done. It’s fantastic – I would certainly say he is a legend. His goalscoring. He has the full package. He does everything. Absolutely top level.”

Dominic Solanke at Tottenham

Tottenham paid a club-record transfer to sign Solanke from Bournemouth and now they have their Kane replacement.

It probably helps the player that he didn’t sign as soon as Kane left, or else, there would have been more pressure on his shoulders.

Whilst the 19-goal Premier League hitman will still feel the heat, he will now be able to settle in far more comfortably.

Solanke hasn’t played since getting injured on his Tottenham debut, but he has a chance to open his goalscoring account if he returns for the north London derby on Sunday.
