Liverpool fans have got a feel about what Arne Slot is all about given their strong start to the new Premier League season.

When Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool, given the stability the club would lose and what he had won, it wouldn’t have been a surprise if fans were worried about the future.

But after Liverpool beat Manchester United before the international break, they have made a 100% start to the new campaign.

You can look all over the shop, there have been several top performers and players who deserve their flowers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is back to his best for club and country, Mohamed Salah is still doing what he has always done and new signing Federico Chiesa is yet to be used.

But there is a player who has left Anfield legend Steve Nicol ’surprised’ because, during the previous campaign, ‘he produced nothing’.

Ryan Gravenberch has probably been the story of the season for Liverpool because he has been bossing proceedings as a number six.

There was a lot of talk about Liverpool wanting to sign Martín Zubimendi this summer, but the Euro 2024 winner opted against joining the club and remaining at Real Sociedad.

Either way, Nicol thinks it has been ‘all up so far’ for Gravenberch because the £34 million signing was the opposite last season, as he told ESPN.

Ryan Gravenberch’s improvement

“100% (he has surprised me),” admitted Nicol. “I don’t know where the ups were (last season). Saying there were ups and downs. There were just downs.

“The position that he was playing was more of an attacking position and he didn’t produce anything. The fact that he is in a completely different position, a) was a surprise when he stepped on the field.

“But, there is no question, it has been all up so far. It has been a huge surprise the way he has played this season. Not just for Liverpool, but for Holland.”

Arne Slot’s strong start

How Slot has settled in, without any hiccups so far and with such calmness has been music to supporters’ ears.

But that first hit or knockdown will come sooner rather than later, it’s just natural and it’s a case of how will they react? That’s when the real tests will come.

Liverpool still have a healthy run of Premier League games coming up, starting with a home tie against Nottingham Forest.

But their standout match is going to be a Champions League showdown against AC Milan, with Real Madrid also visiting Anfield in November.
