After Chelsea paid out a clause to avoid a permanent purchase, Jadon Sancho’s future remains unclear as Manchester United look to offload players ahead of the new season.
Manchester United are looking to boost funds this summer by moving players on, with the aim of giving Ruben Amorim the resources needed to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Matheus Cunha has already joined from Wolves in a deal worth £62.5 million, and United are now targeting Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford to add further depth in the final third.
With more attacking options being pursued, questions hang over several loanees, including Antony and Jadon Sancho.
It’s a big summer for United, who are aiming to improve on their disappointing 15th-place finish and return to the Champions League spots.
Jadon Sancho open to Aston Villa transfer
United had hoped that a strong loan spell at Chelsea would turn into a permanent move for Sancho, but things didn’t play out that way.
Instead, they’re now working with his representatives to figure out his next step.
Sancho’s loan at Chelsea comes to an end on 30th June, but the deal itself included an obligation to buy for a fee between £20-25 million. Chelsea avoided the buy clause by instead paying a £5 million fee to United.
Since then, Sancho has been linked with a few Premier League clubs.
Aston Villa are said to be among the clubs interested, having already passed on a £40m option to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal.
“Sancho’s situation is clear – similar to that of Rashford, there is little to no future for him at Old Trafford,” Graeme said. “That is clear from both sides.
“United had hoped that he would join Chelsea, just to put the whole scenario to bed, but his unwillingness to take a drop in wages meant a move to Stamford Bridge was not possible.
Speaking to United In Focus, journalist Graeme Bailey explained the situation.

“Sancho’s camp are doing their work on options and we know that Borussia Dortmund want to bring him back – they would be willing to take him on a similar deal to that of Chelsea, but they would need United to contribute to wages too. That is an issue, in terms of what United are willing to swallow.”
“There are other clubs too, he had a decent season at Chelsea, so let’s see how things progress – but to get something done, I think it is inevitable that United have to do something about his wages.”
Other options exist, including the Saudi Pro League, but it’s believed Sancho prefers to stay in Europe for now.
It’s believed that Aston Villa are openly considering Sancho as they search for more depth, while the player is reportedly open to the move as well. Villans would be the 4th Premier League club of Jadon’s career, as he already played for Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Plenty of time remains in the summer window, and with his Europa Conference League win still fresh, Sancho isn’t short of reasons to be optimistic going into the next chapter of his career.

It’s also worth noting that a return to Germany could appeal to Sancho. Borussia Dortmund is still keeping an eye on the situation, even if club chiefs aren’t making him a top priority right now.
Sancho enjoyed plenty of success during his previous stint with Dortmund, producing 53 goals and 67 assists in 175 appearances and helping them to a Champions League final appearance in 2024.
While Sebastian Kehl, the club’s sporting director, has played down the idea of a reunion, there’s no question Sancho would be welcomed back by fans.
