‘Big mistake’: Jamie Redknapp says Ange Postecoglou absolutely wrong about 26-year-old Tottenham player

Jamie Redknapp has criticised Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou for his decision on James Maddison against Fulham in midweek.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has said on Sky Sports Premier League (8:24pm, September 2, 2023) that Ange Postecoglou should have included James Maddison in the starting lineup against Fulham in the EFL Cup Second Round South tie at Craven Cottage in London on Tuesday evening.

Spurs lost the tie on penalties.

Maddison came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute.

Redknapp made the comments while reflecting on Tottenham’s win against Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Maddison, who joined Tottenham from Leicester City in the summer transfer window, started the match against Vincent Kompany’s side and scored one of the goals.

Spurs won against Burnley to continue their brilliant start to the new Premier League season.

Redknapp said: “They lost to Fulham in the Cup which is really disappointing, but the way to bounce back was today.

“James Maddison didn’t play in midweek, big mistake, I don’t think Bissouma started, which is another one.”

Maddison is one of the best English playmakers around, and we believe that he should have started against Fulham.

Tottenham need to win a major trophy soon.

The Cup competitions are very important for Spurs.

There was no need for Maddison to get a ‘rest’ so early in the season.

After all, he is only 26 now and Tottenham do not have European football this campaign.

Maddison has made four appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

The 26-year-old has scored two goals and given two assists in those matches.

‘What a player’: Cristian Romero blown away by £170k-a-week Tottenham star after 5-2 win

Cristian Romero lauded James Maddison on Instagram after he starred once more in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur.

After getting knocked out of the EFL Cup by Fulham in midweek, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side headed into the Burnley game with a mixed mood.

Whilst they have started the new Premier League campaign in a strong fashion, the League Cup loss did dampen morale, well, only for a few days because they thrashed a sorry Vincent Kompany team 5-2 on Saturday, with captain Heung-min Son netting a ha-trick.

Already proving to be one of the signings of the summer, James Maddison got on the scoresheet once again taking his early season tally at Spurs to four goal contributions – although, legendary goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, has been critical of him.

For years, Tottenham have missed a player in the mould of Maddison and now that he has arrived, even without Harry Kane, he is singing and dancing like he’s a mixture of Rafael van der Vaart and Cristian Eriksen.

Maddison wrote on Instagram a simple message to the fans, with Cristian Romero posting in the comments section ‘What a player’.

“Love this team 🤍 Happy Saturdays boys and girls 😁🍻🎯,” wrote the England midfielder.

Maddison has brought Spurs to life

For a number of years, the Spurs fans have had to watch some abject performances from their team.

But, under Postecoglou, all of that has now transformed and Maddison has been at the heart of everything.

The £170k-a-week star (Telegraph) has big shoes to fill because that playmaker role at Spurs has seen some of the club’s best ever thrive, including perhaps the best of them all, Glenn Hoddle – the ex-England manager has already shared his thoughts on Maddison’s arrival.

'A real man': Calum Chambers & Alexandre Lacazette react to emotional Arsenal news

Aston Villa’s Calum Chambers and Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette have hailed Rob Holding after he departed Arsenal and joined Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day.

On Saturday, the 27-year-old posted an emotional message to the Arsenal fans on Instagram and spoke about how he has been ‘lucky’ to represent the club.

Rob Holding spent seven years at Arsenal after he was signed by the club’s legendary manager, Arsene Wenger.

Whilst Holding showcased promise during the early stages of his career at the Emirates, he just hasn’t been able to progress as he would have liked.

But now he starts a new chapter in his career and will be hoping to help a vibrant Crystal Palace side progress towards the Premier League’s top ten under Roy Hodgson – the north London club have made a ‘£2 million profit’ on the centre-back.

When Holding sent his ‘heartfelt’ message to the Arsenal faithful on Instagram, in the comments section of his post, several players sent their well wishes.

Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers, who left Arsenal in 2022, wrote ‘What a man’, whilst Coventry City star and ex-Hale End academy product, Ben Sheaf added: ‘What a guy’.

Ex-striker Alexandre Lacazette added ‘A real man’.

Right move for Holding

Given that a certain Gabriel Magalhaes is warming Arsenal’s bench of late, then it just proves how much of a tough task Holding had of earning game time under Arteta if he stayed on.

Added to that, the Gunners are back in the Champions League, so it’s no time for Arteta to play a weakened team.

This move to Crystal Palace allows Holding to earn regular starts and try to progress a career that has hit the roadblocks.

‘He must also realise’: Souness stunned Liverpool target rejected reported summer exit

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips stunned Graeme Souness by rejecting a deal to leave Etihad Stadium in the summer following interest from Liverpool in his transfer.

The Reds legend is staunch in his belief that Phillips should have explored a move away from Manchester City. Souness fears the 27-year-old now risks becoming an ‘invisible man’ under Pep Guardiola. He continues to feature sparingly only one year after signing for the Citizens.

Manchester City paid Leeds United £45m to sign Phillips on a six-year contract last July. The Elland Road hero was among the talismanic men at the Whites and was inspirational in their promotion into the Premier League. But injuries have plagued his career at Etihad Stadium.

Phillips continues to live on the fringes at Manchester City

Phillips only made Guardiola’s matchday team for 27 Premier League games last season and started in just two matches. He featured a further 10 times as a substitute but only amassed 290 minutes of action. The Leeds-born anchor’s plight has continued into this term, as well.

Guardiola has overlooked Phillips for a starting role in all four of Manchester City’s matches, despite being available. The Citizens boss further overlooked the 27-cap England ace in the Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup. Yet Phillips remains in Gareth Southgate’s side.

Souness fears for what future Phillips has under Guardiola

Southgate named Phillips in his England side to face Ukraine and Scotland in the September international break. But Souness fears for what future Phillips has at Manchester City as the midfielder is always relying on Rodri getting injured to earn Guardiola’s support to feature.

“Phillips remains a regular in the England squad but in terms of playing time at Manchester City, he is close to becoming the invisible man,” Souness wrote in the Daily Mail. “He’s 27 – an age at which he must be playing football.

“He must also realise he’s competing against the very best sitting midfielder in our league and, unless there’s a serious injury to Rodri, he’s looking at being a bit-part player. He has to be looking for a career away from City.”

Liverpool knew Phillips was not interested in any transfer

Liverpool could have offered Phillips an escape from his plight at Manchester City during the summer transfer window. But Ben Jacobs noted that the Reds knew he did not want to leave Etihad Stadium. So, Jurgen Klopp did not persist with his interest in taking Phillips to Anfield.

Phillips is desperate to make his move to Manchester City a success having only left Leeds in 2022. He also overlooked interest from Liverpool to secure a transfer to Guardiola’s side. So, despite Souness’ concerns and the Reds’ renewed interest, Phillips was not going anywhere.

Tottenham have just told Chelsea they want to sign their £50,000-a-week player - Romano

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly trying to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid to try to sign Trevoh Chalobah from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur trying to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea

The Italian journalist has reported on Twitter this evening that Tottenham have approached Chelsea over a loan deal for Chalobah.

Romano has suggested that Chelsea do not want to send the 24-year-old defender to Tottenham because of the rivalry between the two London clubs.

The reporter has claimed that Nottingham Forest are also determined to sign Chalobah tonight.

However, the £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) Englishman, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, does not fancy a move to City.

It will be interesting to see what Chalobah makes of a potential move to Tottenham on the final day of the summer transfer window.

We can understand why the defender would be reluctant to move to Forest.

After all, like last season, Steve Cooper’s side are likely to be involved in a Premier League relegation battle this campaign.

Tottenham are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Just like Chelsea are.

And because of that very reason, there is little incentive for Chelsea to send one of their players to London rivals Tottenham and make them stronger.

And that too only on a loan deal.

We do not see Chelsea sending the 24-year-old on loan to Tottenham tonight.

'Two players who can improve Tottenham': Sky pundit reacts to possible double transfer deal

Phil Bardsley says if Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur sign Nottingham Forest star, Brennan Johnson and Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, then they would ‘improve’ the team.

The former Premier League defender shared that he is a ‘big fan’ of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson and how he is also an ‘outstanding’ player.

Added to that, Bardsley feels that Conor Gallagher possibly leaving Chelsea for Tottenham would see the midfielder bring in some much-needed experience to the club, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/09/23 at 11:25 am).

Well, it seems as though Spurs will get at least one of those players through their doors, with a ‘£45 million+’ deal has been agreed on transfer deadline day, as reported by BBC Sport.

As for Gallagher, that might seem unlikely, with Merson claiming that the all-action midfielder will be a ‘hero’ if he snubs a move to Spurs.

Nonetheless, this is what Bardsley had to say about Johnson and Gallagher possibly heading to Spurs on deadline day.

“I would say so (on Tottenham still doing business),” said Bardsley. “Brennan Johnson is an outstanding player. I am a big fan of his.

“Gallagher has started the campaign quite well at Chelsea. Two players, who are young, but decent amount of experience to go in and improve that Tottenham squad.”

Big pressure on Johnson

If the Wales international does get his move, then he will be under huge pressure because of the price-tag he is going for after playing only one season in the Premier League.

A certain Richarlison, who is Tottenham’s club-record signing, is struggling to showcase his worth and has only scored one Premier League goal.

Johnson will be hoping for a much faster start because, as Spurs proved after their EFL Cup defeat to Fulham, their emotions can be all over the place pretty quickly.

Bus driver sparks outrage online for refusing to let school children off vehicle

Footage of a DeSoto County bus driver keeping kids captive in a school bus has gone viral, so what happened to them?

A Facebook Live video has garnered attention on social media after showing a bus driver seemingly refusing to allow school children to exit the vehicle. The footage was captured by a parent in DeSoto County, Mississippi, and anger from fellow parents has erupted online.

WATCH: Parents outraged at DeSoto County bus driver for locking children in

Footage captured on August 31 shows a bus full of school kids crying and screaming in fear as they cannot exit the yellow vehicle.

The bus was transporting youngsters from Center Hill Elementary School and parents were initially concerned as they were returning home late, as per reports. They eventually found the bus and saw that the driver refused to let them leave.

“Open the door, that’s my child,” shouted the furious mother as they banged on the door. “Somebody better get that door open, I promise you. Look at those kids scream and cry like that; that woman has lost her mind.”

The driver identified by the recorder is a female with short white hair and wore sunglasses.

A bystander asked the video uploader why the driver wouldn’t let the kids off the bus, but she was unsure.

A young girl inside the bus can also be seen telling the camera: “They won’t let us out.”

Soon enough, children began tossing their backpacks and climbing out the window to escape.

According to reports, the bus was stopped after a student refused to hand over a phone to the driver.

“But why would she hold them hostage and against their will??!!” one Twitter user questioned.

What happened to the bus driver?

The unnamed bus driver is on leave after the “traumatizing” clip went viral but they are still employed.

DeSoto County News quotes Superintendent Cory Uselton:

“The bus driver was a substitute for that route, and a new driver has been assigned to the bus route for the remainder of the school year. The bus driver is still an employee of DeSoto County Schools.”

A Facebook user named Lisa Stephens, who allegedly knows the driver, has defended her actions, claiming the driver was following protocol.

Stephens alleges that a fight broke out on the bus and the driver called “the bus shop to report it and also had to call the law.” They were waiting for law enforcement and DeSoto County School to arrive when a student pulled out her phone, which as per district bus rules, is prohibited.

“Then all the other children went to screaming.”

There has been no further information from law enforcement.
