Antonio Conte has told Thursday’s press conference – as per Football London – that Tottenham defender Ben Davies is the kind of player that is “vital” for “every manager”, underlining that Davies always has the “right desire” when playing.
Davies, 29, has surpassed 300 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham in recent games, since joining the club in 2014. He continues to be a kay part of the Spurs side under Conte, playing on the left of a back three – or wing-back.
The defender’s consistency and availability is unerring. He is closing on 400 club appearances, and has a huge 466 under his belt before his 30th birthday for club and country. Davies is likely to start at Southampton on this weekend.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash against relegation-threatened Southampton, Conte raved about Davies. He says it is vital to have this kind of player in your squad as a manager, praising his desire and his reliability as a player.
“These type of players are vital for every manager. Ben is a player that is showing always a great reliability and he’s a player that’s always focused. He always has the right desire,” Conte said about the “underrated” Davies on Thursday.
“You know Ben will finish the game he will finish with his committment top. You can win or lose but you know Ben is a reliable player. It’s a privilege for every manager to have in his squad,” Conte added, as per Football London.
Conte: Tottenham defender Davies is player that is vital for every manager
Davies has proved to be a brilliant signing for Tottenham. Joining the club as a youngster with less than 100 games under his belt from Swansea, he has gone on to become one of the most-consistent, reliable defenders in England.
No, he will not produce performances that are nine or 10/10. But, he will give you seven or 8/10 performances week in, week out. Loyal, determined and passionate, Davies will always give 100% and his attitude is absolutely top notch.
