Crystal Palace are now considering a move for Vincent Kompany as Patrick Vieira finds his future clouded in uncertainty.
What’s the story?
Well, the south Londoners are without a win in 12 games, a dreadful run which has left them just three points above the relegation zone.
As a result, Crystal Palace are looking at Kompany as a potential replacement for Vieira – according to the Guardian.
It is said that Steve Parish is deeply unimpressed by Crystal Palace’s recent performances under the Frenchman, which have produced just nine goals from open play in 27 Premier League games so far this season.
The Eagles are also without a win across all competitions in 2023, and recently became the first side in Premier League history to go three consecutive games without recording a shot on target.
Interest in Kompany comes after the Belgian steered Burnley to the top of the Championship, where the Clarets sit 13 points clear of third place and are just three wins away from promotion.
The Guardian add that Michael Carrick is another potential replacement for Vieira.
Crystal Palace will surely fail to lure Kompany away
In our view, the south Londoners have no chance of appointing Kompany – who has been described as “the next Arteta” by Tony Cascarino.
As aforesaid, the 36-year-old is just a handful of wins away from the Premier League, where he can then focus on preparing the Clarets for their return to England’s top-flight.
In truth, Burnley could be replacing Crystal Palace in the Premier League next season at this rate, so we cannot see Kompany throwing all of his hard work at Turf Moor away for a relegation fight in SE25.
The same goes for Carrick, who has Middlesbrough sat third in the Championship – six points off the automatic promotion positions.
To put it simply, we would be shocked if either him or Kompany joined Crystal Palace at this point in time.
