Cash App founder Bob Lee passed away on April 4, 2023 from stab wounders in San Francisco – he is survived by his wife, Krista, and their two children.

Tech executive Bob Lee passed away in hospital following a “horrific” stabbing in the early hours of Tuesday. He was age 43.

Authorities responded to the scene outside a luxury apartment at 2:35am on the 300 block of Main Street, downtown San Francisco, police said in a statement. Lee was not identified in the report, but details matched the entrepreneur. His father, Rick, also confirmed the death on Facebook.

“I just lost my best friend, my son Bob Lee when he lost his life on the street in San Francisco early Tuesday Morning,” he wrote.

“Bobby worked harder than anyone and was the smartest person I have ever known. He will be missed by all those that knew him.”

Lee kept his personal life private despite being a public figure, so here’s what we know about it.

Bob Lee was separated from wife Krista at the time of death

Lee welcomed two daughters, Dagny and Scout, with his ex-wife Krista (née Drake). Their youngest child, Scout, is about 14 years old.

Originally from St Louis, Missouri, Krista moved to San Francisco with Lee in 2011 and according to her Facebook profile, she still resides in the Bay Area with their two kids.

It’s unknown when the Lees separated, but the late chief product officer relocated to Miami, Florida in October 2022 with his father. Bob’s relationship with Rick strengthened in 2019 when they moved to Mill Valley, California together following the death of his mother.

“Life has been an adventure with two bachelors living together, and I’m so happy that we were able to become so close these last years,” Rick wrote in a tribute. “Bob would give you the shirt off his back. He would never look down on anyone and adhered to a strict no-judgment philosophy.”

The Cash App leader is also survived by his brother, Tim Oliver.

He worked for the biggest names in tech

Before founding Cash App in 2013, Lee got his start as a technical architect at AT&T in 2004. He spent the next seven years as a software engineer at Google and provided major contribution to the Android operating system.

Other high industry roles include chief technology officer of Square, a financial services platform for businesses. At the time of his death, he was the CEO of Present, chief product officer at MobileCoin, and an investor of major companies, such as SpaceX and Clubhouse.
