What date and time will Hell’s Paradise episode 5 release around the world, and what happened in last week’s anime chapter?

Hell’s Paradise is maintaining its ranking as the third highest-rated series of the 2023 Spring broadcasting slate, only behind the outstanding Oshi No Ko and the third season of Demon Slayer.

In last week’s anime episode, Gabimaru and Sagiri witnessed some of the horrors that the island of Paradise has to offer first hand from enormous troll-like monsters to strange insects with human faces…Unfortunately, the most dangerous creatures on the island remain the death row criminals themselves.

Here is everything that fans need to know about Hell’s Paradise episode 5, including the release date and time on Crunchyroll, as well as a quick recap of last week’s episode.

Hell’s Paradise episode 5 release date and time

Hell’s Paradise episode 5 is scheduled to premiere around the world on Saturday, April 29.

The next episode from Studio MAPPA’s hit Jigokuraku anime adaptation will release for OTT streaming via Crunchyroll at the following international times:

New episodes from the English dubbing of Hell’s Paradise are released every Saturday from 1:30 PM PT.

A quick recap of Hell’s Paradise episode 4

Hell’s Paradise episode 4 was titled ‘Hell and Paradise’, opening with Gantetsusai explaining how he received a death sentence because he destroyed the front gate of a powerful daimyo.

Whilst his Asaemon doesn’t understand his violent nature, he reveals that he is interested in dissection and vivisection to further medical science; as the two walk into the jungle, they discuss that it would be better to kill off other criminals before finding the Elixir.

Meanwhile, Gabimaru and Sagiri defend themselves against a group of enormous monsters that have surrounded them. In the heat of battle, Sagiri becomes distracted by Gabimaru’s incredibly violent tendencies, to the point of distraction; fortunately, Gabimaru retains his sharp edge and is able to save Sagiri.

Gabimaru is shocked that he would subconsciously act to save his would-be executioner and this momentary lapse of judgment almost cost him his life, before another Asaemon arrives to save them.

The criminal Yuzuriha and her Asaemon arrive and offer a deal to work together and despite some rather ill-advised flirtation, they agree to help find the Elixir together – or at the least, work together until they eventually betray one another.

A quick flashback then sees Toma infiltrating the Asaemon in order to save his brother Aza; the blonde-haired criminal from captivity. Back in the present, the two barely manage to escape the monsters, with Aza noting that this island will weed out the weak from the strong.

Official descriptions for Asaemon and Shinsenkyo shared

Whilst Hell’s Paradise may be a relatively straightforward story, the various names and phrases in the anime is causing some confusion online; especially regarding the island itself, and the executioners accompanying each criminal. Thankfully, the Hell’s Paradise website has shared some additional definitions for both terms:

The Yamada Asaemon, from the Yamada Clan are described as “the official group of ronin and executioners for the Shogun. Also known as ‘Hitokiri Asa’ (Decapitator Asa) and ‘Kubikiri Asa’ (Neck-Chopper Asa). Not only [do] they make their livings by execution, but also by manufacturing medicines.”

“Shinsenkyo: A mysterious island which convicts and executioners landed to find the Elixir of Life. As flowers are blooming and butterflies are everywhere, the island is also called ‘Paradise’ or ‘Heaven’. The island is located further away from the Ryukyu Kingdom, and 60 officers that went to research the island never returned. Only the officer that transformed into flowers made it back.”
