Glenn Hoddle thinks Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea will push to appoint Brendan Rodgers as their next permanent manager.
Leicester City, who are now sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone, sacked Brendan Rodgers over the weekend.
Hours later, those at Chelsea followed suit by booting Graham Potter out, after his team dropped into the Premier League’s bottom half after losing to Aston Villa.
Tottenham made their call on Antonio Conte during the International break. That rant after losing to Southampton played a big part.
Either way, two of London’s biggest clubs are now looking for a new face. Could former Liverpool boss Rodgers be that guy?
Well, Hoddle, who has played for Spurs and taken the hot seat at the Bridge thinks that the Northern Irishman might still get that top gig, as he told Premier League Productions (04/04/23 at 7:20 pm).
“I do believe Rodgers when he says that ‘I would have kept them up’,” said Hoddle.
“I think it was harsh on Brendan. I think he is a really good coach and a really good manager. I think there will be plenty of people out there that will be going ‘we will go for him’.
“Tottenham and Chelsea, I think they will be interested. I really do.”
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL
Both teams need Champions League football next season, in order to help boost their chances of landing a top, top coach and those elite players.
For Spurs, it’s a case of trying to finish fourth in the Premier League, but they have a fight on their hands, with Newcastle United, Manchester United, Liverpool and Brighton all scrapping alongside them.
For Chelsea, it’s all about the Champions League in itself. A number of the current players have won the competition before, well, do it again and it will save a quite abject season.
