James Corden is finally bidding goodbye to his Late Late show, but why is he returning to the UK after all these years?
In April of last year, James Corden confirmed he would be leaving The Late Late Show and will be heading back to the UK.
At that time, the news came as a shock to his fans, but now, a year later, fans and all his celebrity pals have accepted his decision.
Why is James Corden returning to the UK?
James is returning to the UK to spend time with his wife and three kids. The host confirmed the same last year while announcing his retirement from the show.
In a statement, he said: “It’s been a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show. I’m thrilled to be extending [for a year]. I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave, and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.”
CBS president and CEO George Cheeks, also supported his decision and added: “Seven years ago, James Corden came to the U.S. and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online. We wish he could stay longer, but we are very proud he made CBS his American home and that this partnership will extend one more season on The Late Late Show.”
What we know about his wife and kids
James is married to Julia Carey and the pair are parents to three beautiful children. The pair met back in 2009 through a mutual friend and have never looked back ever since then.
While she and the kids moved to the US to stay with James, the television host hinted he wanted to spend the time with the rest of his family members, most of who are in the UK.
Speaking about the impact of his family on his decision to retire from the show, James said in an interview: “My kids are getting older, their grandparents are getting older, and it perhaps just felt like the right time for us as a family to be freer in our decisions.”
He has left his mark on the show
James managed to bring a new spark to the show with his ideas such as Carpool Karaoke. The segment from the show allowed celebrities such as BTS, BLACKPINK, Harry Styles, Adele, and more to entertain the fans.
Just before the show ended, the television host did a carpool karaoke with Adele and the interaction between them led to both of them getting emotional.
Meanwhile, James ended the show by bringing Harry Styles and Will Ferrell as his final guests.
