Chelsea now want to sign Sadio Mane – just less than 12 months after Liverpool sold him to Bayern Munich.

The Senegal international has endured a difficult time in Germany, crashing out of the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal while also slipping to second in the Bundesliga.

Mane was also fined for punching Leroy Sane after a recent defeat to Manchester City.

Despite his struggles, Chelsea are keen to give him a fresh start.

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Daily Mail (via Record) – the Blues want to bring Mane to Stamford Bridge.

Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany believes the 31-year-old could be sold following the incident with Sane, as those at the Allianz Arena also haven’t been too impressed with his efforts on the pitch since arriving from Liverpool.

Mane – who cost Bayern Munich £35m – has scored just 12 goals in 34 appearances this season, which is quite a poor return for a player of his immense quality.

Nevertheless, the Senegalese forward’s record in English football is superb, so Chelsea are by no means put off by his apparent availability.

Mane scored 111 goals in 263 Premier League appearances during his time at Southampton and Liverpool.

Chelsea do not need Sadio Mane

This rumour is surely nonsense.

Chelsea already have Christopher Nkunku arriving in July in a £63m deal from RB Leipzig, and are also yet to fully integrate the likes of Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk into their attack.

Therefore, it would be utterly bizarre if the Blues go on to add yet another attacker to their frontline.

It would also be a questionable shift from Todd Boehly in terms of transfer policy, as the focus so far has been on recruiting young talent, rather than experienced stars such as Mane.

Nevertheless, anything can happen in football – especially in the transfer window – so be sure to keep an eye on the situation.
