You may or may not have had a conversation with Snapchat’s chatbot yet, but the question sure must have crossed your mind – why did the app make an AI?

The feature is made available for some users already, while it’s rolling out slowly for others. The incorporation of Artificial Intelligence into its application is Snapchat’s move towards building a deeper connection with users in many ways.

So, here’s why Snapchat came up with My AI.

Why did Snapchat make an AI?

Snapchat launched My AI to help you connect more deeply to the people and “things you care about most.” The AI is also capable of doing a number of other tasks.

The company’s CEO, Evan Spiegel, sees the chatbot as an “awesome creative tool”, drawing from his own experience with a bot.

Snap’s blog describes AI as a “friendly chatbot” created to try and answer Snapchatters’ “burning trivia questions, offer advice on the perfect gift for your BFF’s birthday, help plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, or suggest what to make for dinner.

The platform notes, “just like real friends”, you are bound to get relevant responses from the AI, the more you two interact. You can even give it a nickname.

Why is the feature not available for you?

My AI may not be available to all users immediately as the feature is being rolled out slowly. You also need to be a Snapchat Plus member, which is a paid subscription, to get the feature.

A few users weren’t able to access the chatbot at first as they were still using the older version of the app. As the AI is made available with the latest update, make sure you have the latest version installed.

Some users experiencing issues with the feature despite following the above steps must have encountered a technical glitch, as millions of Snapchatters are trying to access it at once.

How to get Snapchat Plus

The service will cost you $3.99 per month, $21.99 for six months, or $39.99 per year. Follow the below steps to get it.
