TikTok has become obssessed with King Charles’s bodyguard, even giving him the nickname Major Eye Candy, but who exactly is he?
Major Jonathan Thompson, also known as Johnny, or Major Eye Candy if you are a TikTok user, currently serves with the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, and has been working with the Royal Family for years.
Royal fans first noticed him round the time of the late Queen’s state funeral in September 2022. Ever since, royalists have kept a close eye on him, spotting him at all sorts of Royal events, and he has been the subject of many, many TikToks, larelgly due to his good looks.
Who is King Charles’s bodyguard?
Born in Morpeth, Northumberland, Major Thompson lives in Surrey with his family. He married his wife, a marketing manager named Caroline, in 2010, and they have a four-year-old son.
Thompson is King Charles III‘s body guard and Roayal equerry. As the King’s equerry, he is responsible for the detailed planning and execution of the monarch’s daily programmes. This includes looking after carriages, coaches and Rolls-Royces used at state ceremonies. He is also required to attend other public events and be in close contact with the King, which is where he is often spotted by admirers.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he has served in the British Army since 2006, prior to graduating from Aberystwyth University where he studied Economics, International Politics and Intelligence Studies.
Major Johnny Thompson worked for The Queen before King Charles
Before becoming Charles’s bodyguard, he was previously Queen Elizabeth II’s most senior bodyguard.
The officer was seen by the Queen’s side during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022 and accompanied King Charles and Camilla on their royal visit to Greece back in 2021.
